I received the information below as part of an email letter from the Republican National Committee.  I agree with the principle of empowering the people not the government, etc.  The problem is that too many Republicans give only lip service to this and other viable Republican principles,  i.e. they are RINOs (Republican In Name Only).  While the figures provide an interesting summary of the national deficit, $23.1 trillion is too low because it does not take into account approximately $55 trillion in unfunded social security and medicare obligations.  These future obligations bring the total to over $78 trillion, a staggering amount given that the GDP of the ENTIRE WORLD is estimated to be $78.4 trillion.
………….

A nearly $2 TRILLION deficit this year. Another deficit over $1 TRILLION next year. A national debt of over $23.1 TRILLION during the next ten years. And $1 TRILLION in new tax increases over the next ten years.

The pork-laden budget plans the Obama Administration laid out this week for 2009 and 2010 are reckless, irresponsible and irrational. The Obama/Pelosi/Reid Democrats are using this current economic crisis to accelerate their liberal agenda to grow the size and scope of government at all levels, increase spending to record levels and foster the redistribution of wealth at an alarming rate.

I’ll be the first to admit that Republicans had a hand in creating this mess, but further uncontrolled spending, record deficits and a huge tax increase during a recession are not the prescription for creating jobs and making our economy strong again.

There is a better way and it starts with the old Ronald Reagan slogan of “Get the government off our backs.” It’s a return to the basic principles of the Republican Party: limited government, freedom, opportunity and providing the tools for free enterprise to create, innovate and prosper.

Republicans believe that empowering the people — not the government — will help get us out of this crisis. Obama’s massive tax increase on individuals and small businesses, the engine that provides 75% of economic growth, is like turning the furnace off in a blizzard. It won’t revive our economy and together with the massive spending increases – is dangerous and irresponsible.

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
