One thing I have learned from watching 'I am legend' is that if you start wanting to eat your family, you should be quarantined. I already hate sunlight, so keep an eye on me.

But seriously, would a reverse osmosis water filter keep out pathogens? Aside from tasting better, I wonder if it could help prevent contagion.

You're very welcome. It's a difficult decision, at times, whether to post things like this or not. I guess would rather take a chance on being called Chicken Little and warn my neighbors than be accountable for their misery or demise.

I don't usually get on here at night but everyone is gone and TV is boring. This is really disturbing stuff but it is better to know about it and be prepared. I looked at the link but it is really long so I'll finish it another time. At least I know where to go to get good advice on how to get food storage and other things we will need. Thanks for the resource.

Wow, Terrie, I just had a chance to check out the link you gave us at the end of your blog. It is the best article I've ever seen about being self-sufficient. Thanks for the article you posted AND for the link. I'm so glad you added it and I hope everyone will check it out.

Yes, Hank. Food storage is a major part of preparation, but I hope people will also consider things like laundry detergent, bleach, gloves, trashbags. Sanitation can be a big challenge in times of natural disaters and epidemics.

This is a time to do what we can to prepare and then trust in the Lord whose purposes fail not. As current events unfold I like to remember what Neal Maxwell said about the coming storms.

"Much as I lament the gathering storms, there will be some usefulness in them. Events will help to draw fresh attention to God’s higher ways and His kingdom, . . . During this time when nations are in distress, with perplexity, there will actually be some redemptive turbulence: “For the kingdom of the devil must shake, and they which belong to it must needs be stirred up unto repentance” ( 2 Ne. 28:19)"

During the coming calamities and judgements, some will curse God and die, while others will turn to Him. (Hence the redemptive turbulence.) Of those who honor and serve the Lord, some will perish others will survive, but all will be eternally blessed.

Sharon, I think the only answer to that is food storage. It will be worth more than gold some day and since we don't know what some day is, we need to get ready now.

Old fashioned gardening and old fashioned fires and transportation by horseback might work for those who don't live in the cities, and who live where there is wood for fire, and soil that will grow things. I have a yard with a garden area and some trees which I view as potential sources of food production and fire wood so I guess our family might be better off than many, but what will the millions do who live in large urban areas?
