Reagan was tough with our enemies but he was always a gentleman they could respect. McCain is a bully and has no tact. I don’t want this guy to bulldoze us into more world hatred. He has a lose screw.

McCain hopes for Castro’s speedy demise

Friday said he hoped Fidel Castro’s resignation would be followed by his speedy demise, and rapped Democrat Barack Obama for offering talks with Cuba’s next leader.

“Fidel Castro announced that he would not remain as president — whatever that means,” McCain said in Indianapolis.

“And I hope that he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx

This worries me because of the claims that Obama goes to a separatist church that hates whites.

Michelle Obama thesis was on racial divide

Earlier this week, commentator Jonah Goldberg remarked on National Review Online, “A reader in the know informs me that Michelle Obama’s thesis … is unavailable until Nov. 5, 2008, at the Princeton library. I wonder why.”

“Why a restricted thesis?” asked blogger-pastor Louis Lapides on his site Thinking Outside the Blog. “Is the concern based on what’s in the thesis? Will Michelle Obama appear to be too black for white America or not black enough for black America?”

Attempts to retrieve the document through Princeton proved unsuccessful, with school librarians having been pestered so much for access to the thesis that they have resorted to reading from a script when callers inquire about it. Media officers at the prestigious university were similarly unhelpful, claiming it is “not unusual” for a thesis to be restricted and refusing to discuss “the academic work of alumni.”

This is the news the world is getting from Kosovo:

Excerpts from today’s MSNBC story by By Peter Finn
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23303207

Kosovo Independence Raises Hopes for Revival

GJAKOVA, Kosovo – The last time Florie Myrtaj drew a paycheck was in 2002. Her husband has been out of work, too. The only way they survive is through the charity of a relative living in Germany.

But in this economically stricken city, Myrtaj, a 42-year-old mother of three, sees a window of opportunity opening. Among Kosovars, she is not alone.

“We’re all hoping that independence will change our lives,” she said.

Kosovo has faced angry resistance from its Serb minority since declaring independence Sunday. But while attempting to temper the fury of ethnic Serbs with promises of tolerance, the country’s government must now also satisfy an ethnic Albanian majority that is mired in poverty but flush with expectations that independence will rapidly translate into prosperity.

“People in Kosovo lived in a ghetto and they tolerated it in the name of independence,” said Berat Buzhala, editor of the Express newspaper in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. “They think independence will solve everything, automatically and quickly. Unrealistic expectations could be a big problem.”

… Once an industrial hub in Yugoslavia, Gjakova — called Djakovica by Serbs — was devastated by the war. Serb forces killed 1,000 people in this region and burned 10,000 homes and businesses. Most of the homes have been rebuilt, according to Haqif Shehi, a former mayor of Gjakova. But a recovery effort that was started following NATO’s arrival has stalled; it never translated into job-creating growth.

“We’re still waiting for the future,” said Shehi. “We’re very happy about independence, but the economic situation is very bad. And we need jobs for our young people.”

With 2 million people, Kosovo has Europe’s youngest and fastest-growing population. Barring an economic recovery, about 50 percent of Kosovars ages 20 to 35 intend to emigrate, according to a report by Forum 2015, a research group in Pristina…

Chuck this is more of a human interest story than political. That is what the MSM does. They try not to focus on overarching facts.

T. Fan Says:

23 February 2008 at 12:36 pm.

The same thing happened in Africa when the Europeans turned over control a few decades ago. The Africans thought they would automatically become wealthy. Most of them did not understand the mechanism of building economic security and society broke down into chaos. From what I have read, the Serbs provided most of the economic stability in Kosovo but when driven out, there was no solid structure in place to continue any kind of prosperity.

Chuck C Says:

23 February 2008 at 12:55 pm.

I believe you are right T.Fan.

Like Rhodesia, which became Zimbabwe, whites were 1% of the population, but held 70% of the farmland. Mugabe began to redistribute land to blacks in 2000 with a compulsory land redistribution.

I have friends who stayed at a beautiful villa which was attacked the day after they left and all the visitors were killed. My sister-in-law was born in Rhodesia and her grandmother still lives there. The conditions are deplorable since “independence”.

As stated in Wikipedia, Zimbabwe’s current economic and food crisis, described by some observers as the country’s worst humanitarian crisis since independence, has been attributed, in varying degrees, to a drought affecting the entire region, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and the government’s price controls and land reforms.

Life expectancy at birth for males in Zimbabwe has dramatically declined since 1990 from 60 to 37, the lowest in the world. Life expectancy for females is even lower at 34 years. Concurrently, the infant mortality rate has climbed from 53 to 81 deaths per 1,000 live births in the same period. Currently, 5.6 million Zimbabweans live with HIV.

Independence is not what it is always cracked up to be. As you said above T.Fan, with “no solid structure in place to continue any kind of prosperity”, the fate of Zimbabwe awaits countries such as Kosovo.

Wow, great info, Chuck.

Here is a little of an article about McCain. It’s funny how Republicans are circling their wagons since he is being attacked by liberals but I’m sorry, I do think there is lots of evidence that McCain does favors. Just because he cloaks himself in the conservative name doesn’t mean I am going to swallow his denials.

Report: McCain’s Recollection of 1999 Meeting Disputed by Key Figure

The broadcasting company official who benefited from two 1999 letters written by John McCain to the Federal Communications Commission disputes McCain’s recollection of discussions between the two men.

Lowell “Bud” Paxson, then chief of Paxson Communications, was seeking to buy a Pittsburgh TV station at the time. The Washington Post reports that Paxson recalls directly asking McCain for help in getting the FCC to make a decision on the purchase, and his lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, likely was with him. Paxson said he met with McCain in his Senate office.

Cavetrollhead Says:

I have no doubt that Kosovo will not prosper on its own. They will be the benefactors of international socialism. The more I think about this, the more convinced I become that Vlajko (is that the right spelling) and BoB (my name for bag of bones) were right about the independence of Kosovo being a dark thing.

Cavetrollhead Says:

23 February 2008 at 3:17 pm.

Cameron,

You know that the MSM is already trying to spin the black separatist church thing. About a month ago they ran a story about how most Christian churches are separatist. They used statistics of attendance to make their point. They said that since statistically there are few blacks in what they deem white churches, they are separatist. They fail to point out that many African Americans form Black Churches because they feel more comfortable there, and so-called white churches don’t exclude anyone by word or deed. I believe they are trying to dilute the point of Barak’s chosen religion which of course is Afrocentric.

I will try to find sources for this story

Ahmadinejad: US Should Apologize to Iran

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on the U.S. and its allies Saturday to “apologize” to Iran for accusing it of seeking nuclear weapons—a day after the U.N. nuclear watchdog released its latest report on Iran’s atomic program.

Ahmadinejad said the report by the International Atomic Energy Agency vindicated Iran and warned that Tehran would take unspecified “reciprocal measures” against any country that imposed additional sanctions against Iran.

The IAEA report said several past questions about Iran’s nuclear program had been resolved, but highlighted Tehran’s continued refusal to halt uranium enrichment.

Ahmadinejad said in a televised address to the nation that the best way for the U.S. and its allies to “compensate for their mistakes” is to “apologize and pay compensation.”

“If they continue” pursuing sanctions, he said, “we have definitely drawn up reciprocal measures.” Ahmadinejad did not elaborate.

Hey, more smoke rising over mountain… “Me like-um Black Cherry Popsicle.” What the heck does that mean?

Hank Says:

23 February 2008 at 5:41 pm.

Speaking of spinning, you all have my head spinning. I’m not as clever as the rest of you. No one has called me Henry since my mother died. My father called me hanky panky cause I was a rascal as a boy. So I became Hank but you can call me Henry if you’d like.

Chuck C Says:

23 February 2008 at 5:53 pm.

Where’s Teacher? I think we have derailed today. Henry, do you know the song, “Hanky Panky”? I can’t remember the words to the song other than, “my baby does the Hanky Panky”. Can you?

I just read John McCain’s bio on wikepedia. He did a lot of hanky panky growing up and he was a rascal too. One of the dumbest guys at the Naval Academy, and look where he is now! His motto: “Who needs brains when you’ve got the bombs!”

Roy Bischoff Says:

I had to stop laughing so I could write this. Now I have that stupid song stuck in my head. Anyway, back to politics, here is something about Kosovo.

Serbia: US ‘culprit’ in Kosovo violence

“The United States is the main culprit … for all those violent acts,” Serbia’s Minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic said in Belgrade.

Other Serbian leaders have called for calm after the riots. But an aide to hard-line Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said any future violence also will be blamed on the U.S.

“If the United States sticks to its present position that the fake state of Kosovo exists … all responsibility in the future will be on the United States,” Kostunica adviser Branislav Ristivojevic said in a statement.

The comments were an indication that Serbia is drifting further from the West and more toward ally Russia.

Speaking of Romney, did you know the British warship HMS Romney was in Boston Harbor before the American Revolution?

Then later it was near John Paul Jones’ ship ‘Bonhomme Richard’. Sir John Anstruther who owned a mansion on the north shore of the Firth of Forth was worried that Jones might attack. He had a cannon and shot to protect himself but no powder so he sent his yacht out to borrow a barrel of gunpowder from H.M.S.’Romney’ which was nearby. The yacht mistook the ‘Bonhomme Richard’ for the ‘Romney’. In return for information on coastal defenses innocently given by the boatman, ironically Jones gave him the gunpowder!

Eight days later, on the night of 23rd September 1779, John Paul Jones fought his most famous battle when he engaged H.M.S. ‘Serapis’ and the ‘Countess of Scarborough’ off Flamborough Head. It was during this battle when asked if he wished to surrender that Jones gave the reply “I have not yet begun to fight!”

The Romney ran aground Nov 19, 1804 but the crew was saved. I don’t know how to tie this in to today, but a little nautical jargon for Romney… Batten down the hatches! Unfurl the main mast! Bring ‘er into the wind! Steady men, fire on my command! You believe in Miracles Huckabee?!? You wanna fight McCain!?! Let us now begin to fight! (Oh yeah, too late… He threw in the towel. Sorry people.) He sailed away but he’ll be back to fight another day.

Jan W. Says:

23 February 2008 at 6:52 pm.

The things we learn here. The army was good at retreating to fight another day during the revolution so I think Romney did the right thing. I can’t wait for him to sail back.

Are the world’s ice caps melting because of climate change, or are the reports just a lot of scare mongering by the advocates of the global warming theory?

Scare mongering appears to be the case, according to reports from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that reveal that almost all the allegedly “lost” ice has come back. A r, are almost back to their original levels.

Chuck C Says:

23 February 2008 at 10:03 pm.

Cave, I was beginning to think that we were in a cycle of warming that comes and goes with the centuries, due to the reporting you mentioned above. My questions were, what are the major causes, and how much of it was to human activity? Now I see that we may have been duped. Thanks for the link.

Matt Says:

23 February 2008 at 11:05 pm.

After hearing a lot on both sides I finally was starting to believe the scientists who said it was about 3% human caused and the rest was a natural cycle since they have evidence of other planets in the solar system also heating. It looks like the cycle might be over since this is the coldest winter in a century in lots of places.
