I wish this could be good news for all of us but what I am afraid it means is that the rich are going to get richer and the poor will get poorer.

Buffett Says Credit Crisis Ebbs for Wall Street Firms

May 3 (Bloomberg) — Warren Buffett, chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., said the global credit crunch has eased for bankers, and the Federal Reserve probably averted more failures by helping to rescue Bear Stearns Cos.

“The worst of the crisis in Wall Street is over,” Buffett said today on Bloomberg Television. `In terms of people with individual mortgages, there’s a lot of pain left to come.” Buffett was interviewed before the Omaha, Nebraska-based company’s annual meeting, attended by about 31,000 people.

The U.S. dollar will keep weakening and Buffett feels “no need to hedge” against currency risk when buying large companies outside the U.S., he said.

Landing From Mars

“If I landed from Mars today with a billion of Mars dollars, or whatever they call them on Mars, and I was thinking about where to put my money,” he said. “I don’t think I’d put the entire billion in U.S. dollars.”

I’m no McCain fan but this is just plain stupid. McCain isn’t even religious, hardly ever goes to church and isn’t close to his pastor. Obama was a close friend to his. I’m glad Obama finally broke that relationship.

McCain’s Pastors: Same Questions, Different Answers

If turnabout is fair play, then John McCain critics believe his association with controversial pastors should be held to the same scrutiny as Barack Obama’s ties to Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

After all, they point out, one of McCain’s religious supporters, John Hagee, called the Roman Catholic Church “the great whore.”

Another, Rod Parsley, referred to Islam as a “false religion” that America was called on to destroy.

Still, when McCain’s link to both men came to light, the backlash was negligible compared with the furor Obama has faced for nearly two months over his relationship with Wright, his former pastor.

“McCain got a bit of a pass on that,” Democratic strategist Bob Beckel said.

Political analysts and the McCain campaign say it was the difference in his relationships with those pastors — more than the news media’s decision to use kid gloves — that spared him the kind of public trial Obama endured.

Carrie, most of the sayings I’ve been using in “News and Comments” were sent to me by Sharon. I select the one I want and find pictures to go with them. I am glad you enjoy them.

2 campaigns, 2 different candidates

By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer 44 minutes ago

WASHINGTON – The differences couldn’t be more striking — and they go well beyond older, white and Republican vs. younger, black and Democratic.

John McCain, more spontaneous and accessible, and Barack Obama, more disciplined and remote, are two unconventional presidential candidates, each with styles all their own.

Contrasts on the campaign trail run the gambit, from the way they stage events and draw crowds to how they court voters and handle reporters.

The two men even carry themselves differently.

McCain, 5-foot-9 and spry at age 71, has a ramrod posture, quick movements and clenched fists; he darts from here to there as if spurred forward by jolts of energy. The combination can make him come across as stiff, despite his remarkably informal and off-the-cuff approach.

Obama, age 46 and lanky at 6-foot-2, seems to glide, his head held high, his gait long and his arms swinging freely at his sides if not buried in pockets. His laid-back mannerisms can seem overly casual, and they belie his highly scripted and picture-perfect appearances.

The divergent personal styles and campaign approaches, particularly during the primary season, offer a glimpse of a possible matchup this fall should Obama win the Democratic nomination over Hillary Rodham Clinton and go head-to-head with McCain, the GOP nominee-in-waiting. At this point, Obama leads Clinton in pledged delegates; it is mathematically difficult for her to win.

For any candidate, mannerisms on the trail can provide insights into how one could behave in office.

I really like what you have done for Sunday blogs. I didn’t think anyone worried about the sabbath day any more. When I was a kid it was important and I can’t help but think if we kept that commandment the country would be a more peaceful place.

Black Tie

This year the Becket Fund is honored to bestow Governor and Mrs. Mitt Romney with its highest honor, the Canterbury Medal, for their role in expanding the free expression of religious faith in the public square. Each year the Becket Fund awards the Canterbury Medal to someone who has “resolutely refused to render unto Caesar that which is God’s.”

The governor’s extraordinary speech on the role of religion in political life was an important contribution to religious liberty and the national political discourse during this election season. Both Governor and Mrs. Romney have demonstrated exemplary poise and dignity in the face of all manner of provocations aimed at their faith. For these reasons and more, The Becket Fund is delighted to present the Romneys with the Canterbury Medal at this year’s dinner.

Yes Matt, I like Mitt. But will conservatives have a place in the party in 2012? If McCain wins, I don’t think so.
I think Romney needs to strike while the iron of his popularity is hot and go around the country making more Reaganesque speeches that will Kindle the fire of conservativism around the country.
But it doesn’t matter what I think about that. Romney never does what I think he should when it comes to running his life. (Jerk!)

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
