Obama damage control. The truth is that some of the things that pastor teaches are way out of line. If you just want to look at the good as in this article that is fine but the bad is still there no matter how you slice it.

Obama found a home in his church

By KAREN HAWKINS and CHRISTOPHER WILLS, Associated Press Writers Thu Apr 3, 3:12 AM ET

CHICAGO – A young Barack Obama was searching for answers, and perhaps a place to belong, when he decided to visit a fast-growing church recommended by friends. What he heard left him in tears.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright preached that day about suffering — about the seemingly endless problems of the world and of individuals. But he also talked about the importance of hope, the audacity of believing things can be made better.

“Hope is what saves us,” Wright said.

That message moved Obama to embrace Trinity United Church of Christ, along with its philosophy of translating faith into action. But it’s a side of Wright that has been overshadowed by his inflammatory remarks about everything from race relations to the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The furor over Wright’s remarks has provoked the greatest crisis for Obama’s presidential campaign thus far, but Obama has refused to leave Trinity or sever his ties with Wright, saying there is much more to Wright and the church.

BARACK’S A LOST CAUSE: HILL
VAIN BID TO WIN RICHARDSON’S SUPPORT
By CHARLES HURT, Bureau Chief

April 3, 2008 –

WASHINGTON – While lobbying for his endorsement, Hillary Rodham Clinton flatly told New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson that Barack Obama could not win the presidency if he got the Democratic nomination.

“He cannot win, Bill. He cannot win,” she said, according to a report by ABC News.

Despite her appeal, Richardson ultimately endorsed Obama – which sent Bill Clinton into a purple rage last weekend during a private meeting with California superdelegates.

“Five times to my face [Richardson] said that he would never do that,” the former president thundered.

One of the roughly 15 superdelegates in attendance told the San Francisco Chronicle, “It was one of the worst political meetings I have ever attended.”

Bill Clinton’s tirade was triggered when Rachel Binah, a superdelegate who had supported Richardson’s campaign, said she regretted that Bill’s former top aide, James Carville, had called the governor a “Judas.”

Others attending the meeting, assembled hastily during the state party convention in San Jose, confirmed the exchange but tried to soften the description of Bill’s anger.

It was “very good, very intense,” said undeclared superdelegate Christine Pelosi, the daughter of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Can somebody explain to me why we are building a missile defense system for Europe when they are doing much better financially than we are? Why aren’t we building it over the United States instead? Don’t we need protection? Who made us the world police?

Bush Wins NATO Nod on Missile Defense
Apr 3 12:18 PM US/Eastern
By MATTHEW LEE
Associated Press Writer

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) – President Bush won NATO’s endorsement Thursday for his plan to build a missile defense system in Europe over Russian objections. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called it a “breakthrough agreement” for the military alliance.

“Now it is clearly understood in the alliance that the challenges of the 21st century, the threats of the 21st century, make it necessary to have missile defense that can defend the countries of Europe,” Rice told reporters at the NATO summit.

Progress on missile defense represented perhaps the biggest boon to Bush from the NATO summit. Russia has fiercely opposed it.

Rice also noted that NATO has “also asked Russia to stop its criticism of the alliance effort and to join in the cooperative efforts that have been offered to it by the United States.”

Current crisis is worst since Great Depression: Soros

India Infoline News Service / Mumbai Apr 03, 2008 11:15

The billionaire investor says that global equity markets will fall more this year after a brief rebound and that the credit crunch is probably far from over

The current financial crisis across the world is the worst since the Great Depression and the credit crunch is probably far from over, according to billionaire investor George Soros. He also says that global equity markets will fall more this year after a brief rebound.

The markets have hit a significant but temporary bottom, Soros was quoted as saying by a leading US business channel. “I don’t think we are halfway through the fallout, because to think what happens in the financial markets doesn’t affect the real economy is nonsense,” Soros said.

I always thought it was weird that Russia threw such a fit about our missile defense system. I understand they wanted the balance of mutual destruction keeping things in check but it only makes sense for a country to try and defend itself against nuclear destruction. I’ve read that Russia has a missile defense system itself but it isn’t as good as ours. But I have to agree that we should be building it for our own country and let the rich EU build its own.

Matt, if there is anyone we should not take their words, it’s Soro. Well, this is how he become billionaire. I am not sure how he does it, but he somehow managed to cause chaos in the financial systems within a few countries, and came in, globbing up the destroyed businesses. That is his speciality. Let me see if I can find that article…

Ahh yes, here it is: George Soros and the Alchemy of ‘Regime Change’

It reads in part:

Soros made his first billion in 1992 by shorting the British pound with leveraged billions in financial bets, and became known as the man who broke the Bank of England. He broke it on the backs of hard-working British citizens who immediately saw their homes severely devalued and their life savings cut drastically in comparative worth almost overnight.

Here’re some more:
“When the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 threatened to spread globally, George Soros was right in the thick of it.”

“He had already been widely proclaiming that it was his own machinations that brought down the Soviet Empire.”

“Then, George Soros did some more shady economic fooling around in France.”

Matt, it is worth your reading, and Soro did try to destroy our financial system once before only to fail. He is trying to do it again, as shown in this article.

And oh yes, Matt, the reason why US wants to have missile system in Europe is because we could detect the incoming missiles much sooner there. We do have some Argies (Navy anti-missile ships) off our coast that we will fall back on in case the first line of defense fail. But yeah, it is not a wise investment, especially when we basically turn over the system to Europeans (if we have not done yet, we eventually will!) And yes, you are right, we do not have the financial means to do it.

By the way, about Soros, I want to be clear in that our financial picture is indeed quite bad at this point. I am just saying we should not listen to Soros too closely. There are better financial gurus we could look toward for warnings and guidances.

Thanks SGS. I can believe someone like Soros would try and line his own pockets with our economic woes. Thanks for the explanation about the missile defense system too. That makes sense but the EU could pay for it themselves.

I am very concerned about the situation over there. This is looking ugly.

Zimbabwe opposition offices raided

HARARE, Zimbabwe – President Robert Mugabe’s government raided the offices of the main opposition movement and rounded up foreign journalists Thursday in an ominous indication that he may use intimidation and violence to keep his grip on power.

Police raided a hotel used by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change and ransacked some of the rooms. Riot police also surrounded another hotel housing foreign journalists, and took away several of them, according to a man who answered the phone there.

“Mugabe has started a crackdown,” Movement for Democratic Change general secretary Tendai Biti told The Associated Press. “It is quite clear he has unleashed a war.”

Thanks Matt and SGS for keeping things moving here. I’ve been busy today.

This really burns me up. The refineries are keeping production low on purpose because they are greedy.

Gas Prices Rise to New National Record
Apr 3 03:41 PM US/Eastern
By JOHN WILEN

Wednesday’s surge in gas futures, accompanied by a big gain in oil prices, is expected to send prices even higher at the pump in the near future; retail prices follow the futures market, although with some time lag. Gas got a boost from an Energy Department report Wednesday that gasoline supplies fell last week while demand rose for the first time since January.

The report also showed that refiners are holding back on producing gasoline due to low refining profit margins. The combination of low production and higher demand during peak summer driving season—and high crude prices—could boost gas prices even further into record territory.

I’ve also heard about George Soros being part of the insider group that would like to take advantage of our financial system for his own good. I am a little nervous sharing the details because I don’t want to be seen as wearing a tin hat. Maybe I shouldn’t be so afraid because after all, they can get away with more if people are so afraid of talking about what they see happening because they don’t want to be labeled. I am on a label kick today.

Ghost Says:

Wait a minute here, a lot of the excuses I was hearing for gas prices going up was that the refineries couldn’t keep up with the job because we haven’t built any for fifteen years. Now we read that they are slowing production because they want more money? And this isn’t headline news why?
