Glenn Beck’s Monologue–Our Republic is at Stake

This is a transcript from part of Glenn Beck’s radio show last week. I don’t always agree with Glenn, but please read his monologue below. He has gotten many of his predictions correct over the past couple of years. This is important to pay attention to.
GLENN: Let me make a prediction. Your local television stations, your local newspapers have a good chance of going out of business in the next twelve months. Your local newscast is going to be very hard to find on more than one station. Your local station, it’s going to be hard to find a city where there is a local television station that is actually with a transmitter. Because they are not going to be able to afford it. The advertising is disappearing. On television stations their ad revenue has been cut by 70% in some cases. People are going to be begging — do you know the New York Times went to a Mexican billionaire and borrowed how much money, Stu, did the New York Times borrow? They borrowed this enormous sum of money to keep their doors open at 14% interest. Excuse me? At 14% interest they borrowed this money. You’ve got to be kidding. These people cannot come after the government because they are going to need the bailout. It’s coming and it’s going to happen quickly and unless you have people in the halls of government that actually represent you, unless you have the people that are advertising the president or running the treasury that you actually trust, when they say to you this must be done if we don’t trust them, well, how do we know it has to be done? They are saying now that he’s just too smart, he’s the guy for the job. I’m sorry. The guy for the job is the guy who will tell me the truth when it hurts him to tell you the truth! And they’re not going to do it unless you stand up. And the longer that you wait, the more dangerous it becomes. If we would have turned the tide on honesty and integrity, really turned the tide, five years ago on the financial situation, if we would have said, “No, you can’t do these.”
When I was on the air in Philadelphia, Stu, when was this? 2003 and they started making these crazy loans with you don’t need any money down and I said, please, America, please don’t do this! This is going to come back and bite you in the ass; it doesn’t make any sense; pl ease don’t do this. Do you remember that? If we would have turned the tide then and we would have let people collapse that were dirty, we would have put them in jail, we would have let their banks go out of business then, it wouldn’t have been so painful. But we didn’t do it. And now everybody’s saying, “Now you don’t understand if these collapse now, you don’t understand.” I do understand. It means that we will have a depression overnight. I understand that. But I have faith that we’ll make it together in a depression! I know who we are! I know who we are. We will make it. We will lean on each other not because we’re told by the government to sure our wealth but because that’s who we are. We’re not going to let our neighbors starve. We’re going to share with each other, not by the force of an IRS agent or the end of a gun but because we fundamentally are different. We love each other. We love our country. We believe in this land. We believe in God. We believe in each other. But if we don’t stand up with our voices, crazy people will stand up later. And when those crazy people stand up, everything changes and now your very life hangs in your decision. Then you’re going to have to pick sides. You don’t want to be in that position. I don’t want to be in that position. This can be solved. Yes, there will be economic pain. Yes. But we stand together, and all we have to do is the tough thing, which happens to be the right thing. Stand up for honor. Stand up for integrity. Stand up for decency. Stand up and say “I was wrong.” Stand up against — you know, I had Mary Matalin and who was the other — Stephen Moore on television last night and Mary Matalin, rightfully so she said, you know, the double standard in this country, I can’t take it. If the Republicans would have… and I stopped her and I said, Mary, I can’t take it anymore. I don’t care! I don’t care about, oh, poor me, I’ve had to go through this. Yes, the double standard is crazy. I can’t — I mean, we all know we wouldn’t get away with this because we’re conservatives. We all know it. Great; let’s move on. How many times do we have to play that dance number?
There’s something much, much bigger at stake: Our republic. Gosh, I’m sorry. I did not mean to give this monologue. This just kind of spilled out of me today. I actually, this is what I wanted to tell you when I started. I don’t feel like I’ve had a chance to talk to you. I feel like I’ve spent far too much time this week talking at you, and I’m sorry. And I want to hear you and so I want to start something today. You know, usually we do Closed Line Friday and I take like four phone calls. But I want to hear your voice. I want to know what you’re thinking, and I get so much mail from people who are saying, “Well, Glenn, I don’t understand this.” Or, “Glenn, what about this,” or, “Where are you on this.” I get so much mail and we have been inundated with mail, especially this week. I mean, it’s just, we got the ratings again last night for, what, the night before, I guess Wednesday’s show, and this show, it’s just been remarkable. I mean, it is — and I know, I mean, I’ve been promoting it and it’s been a big news week and everything else, but it appears to be — and it could go away tomorrow, but — it may, but it appears to be that, the television show appears to be this monstrous, you know, hit for the 5:00 hour and we’re just very thrilled, and we know it could end at any time. But I’m just getting so much mail and everything else and I don’t want to lose track of you because honestly I don’t do it for you, I really don’t. And I know that’s probably something I shouldn’t admit. I don’t do it for you. I do it for my kids.
The producer of my TV show said last night, he said, “Glenn, I’ve been watching you now for two weeks. Why do you do this? You don’t need the money, you don’t need the fame. Why are you doing this? Where are you getting your drive from?” And we’re in the hallway and I looked at him and I got my typical sappy self and I kind of felt like I am right now and I said, “Because I believe it. Because I believe it.” I get my strength from you because I think you believe it as well. Gosh, I hope you do. Because when we fail, we fail because we feel alone. Gosh, and we’re not. We might feel like it, just the two of us just sitting here talking about it, but you’re not alone. There are millions of people that feel like you and me.
