Perceiving Truth

Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Constitution in Peril; Rejecting Herd Mentality .

Lately, as part of my research for the book I am writing, I have been reading some ancient manuscripts that have been uncovered in recent years. There are a number about Adam and Eve. As we know, Eve was deceived by the devil in the Garden of Eden.  There is a general theme in all of the manuscripts that tell about incidents that happened to the unhappy couple after they were ejected from the garden. It seems that the devil continued to try and deceive them again and again. With experience, they learned to perceive whether the source of truth came from God or Satan…from good or evil.

In reading those and many other ancient works, it has occurred to me that one of the things we must learn to do here on earth is learn to perceive truth. This is a difficult task, especially in a day when rhetoric is becoming such a science and political correctness is corralling people so effectively. Truth can only be recognized if we have a foundation that keeps us from being blown with the winds of persuasion from the golden tongued orators. Politically, that foundation is the Constitution, along the the study of the thoughts of the founders behind their work. Once truth is understood, then it takes courage to stand up for it against great pressure.

A professor who taught a course in ancient rhetoric at Berkeley, has warned us on this subject.  “Ancient rhetoric was the training of lawyers for the law schools and the legislative courts. They worked right together, but you had to be a lawyer.  It was thoroughly corrupt, and it destroyed the ancient world.” He says the same thing is going to destroy us  here.

One of the reasons I did not want John McCain as president is that I knew conservatives would be bullied into supporting his liberal leaning policies. In the old game of support your cronies, this scenario would be damaging and drag the conservative movement even further toward the center. What I did not anticipate was that the muzzle would be ordered up by the Republican leaders even when a shockingly liberal president was leading. Thankfully, Republicans are protesting specifics regarding the new policies but they are not talking about the elephant in the room…socialism. They should be raising the ceiling about the threat to our freedoms, but they are afraid. They lost and now they believe the only way to get back power is to play nice. Fine, be polite to the opposition, this is good and necessary, but decry the socialist agenda and call it what it is; unless, regaining power is more important than freedom. If they awake some day with the reigns once again in their hands, they may find themselves living in a very different world that they allowed the liberals to shape.

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
