Romney says he’d take Veep, calls McCain “Big Dog”
Mitt Romney said in his first interview since departing the GOP race that he would accept the number two position on the ticket and that there is no lingering bitterness between him and John McCain.
“I think any Republican leader in this country would be honored to be asked to serve as the vice presidential nominee, myself included,” Romney told FOX’s Sean Hannity in a broadcast set to air tonight. “Of course this is a nation which needs strong leadership. And if the nominee of our party asked you to serve with him, anybody would be honored to receive that call … and to accept it, of course.”
According to two separate reports, Romney is being talked up as a running mate by members of the Bush inner circle. But McCain and his closest advisers have little regard for their former rival thanks to the bitter, year-long race waged between the two Republicans.
Romney says, however, that he thinks the wounds have healed.
“There are really no hard feelings, I don’t think, on either side of this,” he said in the interview. “There were no pacts and so forth that make people feel like that we will never come together. Instead these campaigns are all coming together. We are supporting our nominee enthusiastically, aggressively.”…
Romney said his top fundraisers have already met with McCain’s campaign.
“We are laying out ways we can support his campaign.”…
To make his case, Romney employed a canine metaphor.
Listening to Obama and Clinton discuss their national security credentials, Romney said, is akin to “listening to two chihuahuas argue about which is the biggest dog.”
“When it comes to national security, John McCain is the big dog, and they are the chihuahuas,” he said.

Wow he is very forgiving. It’s also true that if he isn’t very supportive he is finished in politics. I gotta say I’m kind of excited about the idea but I can’t bring myself to believe that McCain would go along with it. I know he seriously hates Mitt.

I watched this and I thought Mitt seemed awfully mild mannered. Not much fire. I think he got pretty tired out with the whole thing. I kind of doubt McCain could bring himself to pick a Mormon. He and his mother seem to hate Mormons a lot. I would vote McCain if he had Mitt on his ticket but it is probably better if he waits four years. People will be able to appreciate his skills with the economy by that time and be kicking themselves.

You know I thought he did great. I am thinking there is a chance McCain will pick him. He has so much class. I think Mitt could really find a way to influence things if he were VP. I am so curious to see what McCain will do.

Wouldn’t Huckabee go nuts if Mitt got the nod for VP? We all know he wants the job.

Even with some of the negatives I would be excited if Mitt was on the ticket. I bet McCain is getting a lot of pressure to add him. I guess we’ll see if he is such a maverick that no one can make him see reason. I missed the interview last night. How was it?

Romney was very dignified and came off great. I wonder if McCain is so intimidated by how presidential Mitt is that he wouldn’t be able to stand standing next to him on a ticket. I would probably vote for McCain if he showed enough class to put aside his grudge match pettiness and pick Mitt but I’m not convinced he has it in him.

If McCain is as half good man as Mitt is, then he will pick Mitt to serve on his ticket. However, remember, McCain is not a true conservative in that he is in this for himself, and nothing else. He will pick someone who will protect his pet projects (laws and such). He will not pick anyone who may ever challenge him in the presidental conference rooms. He is so vain, so stupid (he finished 4th from bottom at Naval Academy), and so egoistic. No, he will never pick Mitt because of who he is.

SGS, that’s what I was thinking. He isn’t so dumb he can’t count to 72. He will want a VP that will “protect his pet projects” as you put it if anything were to happen to him.
Angela, I think you are right about McCain’s vanity and not wanting to stand next to Mitt.

Rush said that McCain is telling everybody they can’t say anything negative about his opponents. He says he is running a clean and highly ethical campaign and doesn’t want anyone else especially people associated with him to be negative. Are people really so dumb that they won’t remember how McCain treated Mitt? He lied about him and sneered at him and push-polled and so much more. What a two faced liar.
