No Reward for Bad Behavior

Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Constitution in Peril; Judaeo-Christian Values Under Attack; Presidential Election 2008 .

On a Thursday in December, the strangest coincidence happened. A number of leading newspapers came out on that day and endorsed Senator John McCain for president. It was a surprise move since he was so far behind in the polls. Many wondered out loud why he was still in the race with no money, no momentum, and no one taking him seriously.

That was the day that a flurry of free campaigning by the press and Washington insiders began to take our choices away from us. We were forced to open up and take our medicine whether we liked it or not. The dumb, fickle masses were incapable of making the correct decision without strong arm tactics. Now we must decide whether or not they were right. Are we dumb? Are we fickle, easily led by the nose where they want us to go? If not, then how do we let the Republican Establishment know that we reject their arrogant force so they will not take us so lightly in the future? There is only one way since they ignore our public outcry. It is with our vote.

E.E. made a wise observation in a comment yesterday. She said that the establishment is treating us as if they are parents and we are the children, when in effect it is supposed to be the other way around. We are the legal guardians of those we choose to represent us, the source from where power comes. It is like a king sending off his son, the prince, to work in the kingdom as a representative of his father.

Then we must take a look at what a bad father would do when his child acts outside of his authority or betrays the father. Rewarding that son would give him a sense of entitlement and reinforce his own sense of power. He would no longer see himself as a representative, but would usurp power away from his father and eventually try and throw off the yoke of authority that his father has over him. He would rise up and take the kingdom for his own, treating his father as a doddering old fool, reversing the parental role.

Senator McCain has exhibited time and time again, the traits of a child throwing a tantrum when he feels he is being thwarted. He is rebellious against the political party he represents, showing no loyalty to his benefactors and disdain to those who disagree with him. He shows petty resentment and jealousy toward any who seem more fit for the role than he is, as was demonstrated by his attitude toward George W. Bush in 2000, and toward Mitt Romney recently. He demonstrates the traits of a bully in a schoolyard with his arrogant rants against foreign leaders. Reagan showed calm strength and maturity against our enemies. John McCain taunts and throws insults like a child. I am convinced if he were to become president, his temperament would spark World War III.

As was illustrated in the story of the boy believing the lies of the rattle snake, carrying it where it wanted to go only to be bitten in the end, I feel John McCain would bite the party he disdains. He will never forgive us for withholding our support and would relish opportunities to show we do not control him. His words do not match his actions regarding abortion so I have no faith he would choose the right judges. I can trust nothing about him, especially since he has proven himself not to be the maverick he claims, but instead to simply being an agent of change for liberals to lead us stubborn conservatives to a new dawn.

To allow ourselves to be so easily manipulated would show a weakness that would damage the conservative party to a degree I am not sure we could recover from for decades. Many will ask how I can allow the democrats to seat a president who will do so much damage. This shows a fundamental difference in thinking between liberals and conservatives. Liberals believe this life is all there is and we must avoid stumbling and falling. Liberals believe we must make this life a paradise for there will be no other. Personal growth is not a part of their vocabulary, instead they wish for no bumps in life.

Conservatives believe that we are here to learn from our mistakes, to pick ourselves up when we fall. We do not believe in placing our toddlers in a playpen every waking moment to keep them from ever falling. We let them stumble in order to Toddlers in the Playpenteach them to walk. If by making the right choice in November, our party elite stumbles and there are consequences for their actions, we must let them fall or they will never learn. If we have to watch our beloved nation stumble for four years in order to learn a hard lesson, that is what I feel we should do or they will never learn. It was by contrast that Reagan swept into office after Jimmy Carter exposed the weakness of liberalism.

We are living in a day where our liberties are close to being thread thin. It is much harder now to be patient and allow consequences for actions. We think maybe we should instead keep our politicians in a playpen and not let them learn the consequences of stumbling when they walk. If we do this, we may postpone the crisis of conscience America is heading for, but I feel this would only make the crisis more devastating when it does come. Postponing a correction of course is not a healthy way to make decisions. This is done out of fear and not its opposite; faith. For this reason, I will do my part to stand back and let the Republican Establishment fall on its face in November and I will be there to help them up again and admonish them to keep trying but be more careful next time.

Political Philosophy 101. This is great. Bad baby boys and girls. Spank ‘em good. The picture of those kids in the playpen is fabulous and illustrates the point so well. They need to get out and fall flat on their faces.

Somebody out there do me a favor. Send this to McCain for me. He may get a kick out of seeing his look alike from his childhood up top. He’ll enjoy the photo of his cronies in there playpen to.

Oooh, now I think I am really close. A statement vote is better than a wasted vote.

Chuck, you’re funny.

Joy, I love the analogy of the king’s son. If we jump in to save the establishment from the consequences of their bad choices, how can we expect them to learn?

I just posted this on another blog but it fits better here. About McCain, If you think about it, If Ford had beat Carter in 1976, it would probably have ended Reagan’s political career. Then where would we be?

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
