Mitt Romney and Religion
Posted by Terrie Soberg under: Presidential Election 2008 .
I heard a comment by a Democratic “analyst” today on television. He was talking about how often Mitt Romney has “flip-flopped” on so many issues. He said that he would not be surprised if Mitt announced tomorrow that he was Roman Catholic instead of Mormon.
There are two things that come to mind about his comments. First, the only major thing that Romney has changed his opinion about is abortion. He never really was pro-abortion. He felt that the states should be the ones to regulate that instead of the federal government and that if a woman made the choice to have an abortion, it was on her shoulders. He has since determined that it is far more important to protect the life of an unborn child, even if the protection must be legislated.
The second thing about Romney is that even though I don’t agree with him on all issues, I do feel that he is a good man who lives his life according to righteous principles. The mainstream media have apparently decided Romney is not their choice, so now they will use whatever they can to make him look bad. I have never understood why people choose to denigrate other religions. Jesus did not belittle the people who stood against him. He spoke the truth and let them make their choice.
Mitt Romney has taking a very big leap of faith. He has decided to give a speech on his religion and religion in America. He is willing to put everything on the line for what he believes. This speech will make or break his chances at the Presidency. John F. Kennedy did the same thing four decades ago.
We’ll see where the chips fall after his speech, but I have a feeling that I already know.
