McCain, Romney to campaign together

Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Presidential Election 2008 .

SAN FRANCISCO – John McCain was getting some help Thursday from former Republican rival Mitt Romney, a pairing that two months ago seemed improbable as the two fought bitterly for the party’s presidential nomination.

In their first campaign swing as allies, Romney planned to meet McCain at the airport in Salt Lake City and appear with the likely Republican nominee at a fundraiser. The two then were traveling to Denver for a second fundraiser.

McCain, who has struggled to raise campaign money, is on a weeklong western fundraising swing. Romney is popular in Utah and Colorado, states with large numbers of residents who are members of Romney’s Mormon faith.

This makes me think that McCain might pick Romney. If he hated him so much he wouldn’t consider it, then he would not be traveling and doing fund raisers with him.

You may be right. That would be great. I wish McCain would hurry up and pick.

From Rush today:

“John McCain is really depressing conservatives. It was just five years ago that he was toying with leaving our party. In 2004 he toyed with being Kerry’s vice president. We’re so screwed.”

I noticed that Sean and Levin are also having a hard time staying enthusiastic about McCain. This is tough.

Remember the venom that McCain spewed against Bush in 2000? It was more personal than against Romney, (though perhaps not more unfair and dishonest.) But not to long after that, McCain was Bush’s big supporter. I don’t think we should be surprised by the warming up in the relationship. This is politics. Romney is the obvious pick for VP and McCain must know it.

Lets just pray for another cold year in 08 to put to rest McCain-Liberman. If the economy can be saved, McCain-Liberman must die.

BTW Terrie, that is a money quote by Rush. Duh! People don’t remember too long do they?

I’m starting to think there really is a chance McCain will pick Romney. It would be nice to know his bullheadedness had a limit.

I listened to Glenn’s TV show last night. He said that there was as much chance of McCain picking Romney as there was of McCain picking Glenn himself. The reason he cited is that McCain is very well known on Capitol Hill for holding very long grudges against anyone who opposes him. I guess we’ll see how much pride McCain has!

Then if that is the case, what chance do we have of McCain forgiving the conservative base of the party for not supporting him. What chance do we have of him sticking to his brand new promises to act conservative?

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
