Focus On Love
Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Constitution in Peril; Judaeo-Christian Values Under Attack; Presidential Election 2008 .
I was just about to post a blog when I received this from Sharon. I decided to guest blog her comments as well as my own blog because this is such an important subject. Those of us who do feel strongly about not supporting McCain may be offended by my blog but Sharon gives the answer; love. But she also pulls no punches in explaining why she personally has chosen not to support Senator McCain but shows respect for those who do not.

Ideas and Impressions: As people flock to McCain’s camp, it will be tougher to stand firm and it will become even more important for us to be able to articulate the reasons we cannot support him. He, like the snake in the parable, will make many empty promises. He might even agree to all 10 of the points which Chuck outlined, but his past choices and actions show where his heart really is. We can be armed with facts that we can share respectfully and logically with those who are willing to listen. If we become contentious, we will give others the excuse to label us as extremists and the desire to “shoot us down,” and they will feel justified in doing so.
We will need to focus on love–our love of the Constitution and our love of the Lord, and our love of all our Heavenly Father’s children, including those who conspire to take away our liberty and those who are just deceived. This is a time to draw close to the Lord and follow His example. Remember that Christ suffered at the hands of evil men so that He could redeem the very people that caused His suffering. Love will increase our faith. We do not need to fear. We know that what ever happens He will watch over us.
Years ago I heard a talk about defending freedom in which the speaker said that at the time of the War for Independence it was only a very small percentage of the colonists (3% comes to mind) that were responsible for severing ties with Britain and establishing the United States of America. Though their numbers were small, they were moral and committed and understood the principles of freedom and government The speaker went on to say that if and when things fall apart, people will be trying to figure out what to do next. There will need to be group of people to show them how to put society and government back together again. It can be a very small group. I think that many of us who visit this site could be included.
We need to be guided by the Lord who will teach us through His Spirit what we can do now and in the future to support true principles and the cause of liberty. Education and action are important. The internet provides us with many resources that can help us learn Constitutional principles and understand what is happening in the world. There are many sites that suggest action we can take. A couple of my personal favorites are http://www.jbs.org/#SlideFrame_1 and http://www.awakeandarise.org/ .
The Lord will bless in our efforts, for he is, as we sing in the beautiful hymn “My Country, Tis of Thee,” the Author of Liberty.

This is great and I wholeheartedly agree. Love is absolutely the only way it will work.

I like that; the author of liberty. Not what liberals think. I checked the blog this morning wanting to connect with like minded people but nothing was going on. I think we are feeling a little down. I am so glad I came back this afternoon. It gives me a lift to come here and not feel alone.
