The Age of Heroes
Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Constitution in Peril; Judaeo-Christian Values Under Attack .
I was going to wait until morning to blog on my feelings regarding the election campaign but as I was reading in the Book of Isaiah, a few verses jumped out at me that I wanted to share with you. I believe most of our readers are Christian or Jewish so I do hope this does not offend. If it does, look at the name of the site and get over it
.
After reading the comments here and on various other blogs and sites, the following words from Isaiah 49:4 seemed to apply to much of the sentiment:
Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.
So many people are feeling lost, some even fearing they wasted their time. Emails and calls are pouring in to talk shows and most are asking what to do now? They are so discouraged, failing to see who to look for to lead our nation through such difficult times. The following words from Isaiah 51:18, although meant for a later time, also apply here:
There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.
So who do we look to for strength at a time of confusion and fear? The answer is a simple one:
IN GOD WE TRUST!
I believe we can take this trust we have in God, follow His example of love, and over-come the differences that pit religious peoples against one another. This is the age of heroes, God loving patriots who will put away the anger of mistrust and reach out to one another on shared values. Have you ever watched an inspiring movie and put yourself in the role of the hero? Have you hoped that you would stand up bravely in a crisis? Now we see if we can live up to that image. So finally we come to the last verse that so inspired me and will have me returning here tomorrow to fight on. Isaiah 51:9 speaks to us as a generation who must do our part. If our nation lacks a president who can lead as we desire, then together we can hold together our convictions, join hands and move forward:
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?
We refuse to slink away quietly, close our eyes and turn our country over to those who would hurt her. We are no longer the Silent Majority, we awoke.
We love America, ….we love the Constitution, … and we love the God who inspired both!

I wasn’t going to come back here today because I was so depressed but I checked one last time before leaving work. I am so glad I did. My chin is higher and the weight on my shoulders isn’t so heavy. I always wanted to be a hero. I guess refusing to be defeated by discouragement is being a hero isn’t it? I’ll be back tomorrow. Thanks Joy.

I heard the news at school. It hit me hard. It will take awhile to get my political feet under me again. I’m glad this blog isn’t only about the presidential election. Sometimes I surf Romney sites. I wonder what will happen to them now? This blog will be even more important now. I hope some of the lost souls from the Romney sites will join us. I hope with all my heart that they won’t do what Joy said and quietly slink away. We can’t afford to be the silent majority any longer. I’ll be back tomorrow too. After class and work that is.

I needed that. I hope that everyone who comes here can agree that those words of Isaiah are inspired. That common ground is enough for us to move forward.

Let not your heart be troubled. Mike Huckabee will teach the world to believe in miracles again. That man of God will save the day and all of you. (but only in mortality because only the ones who are saved have hope beyond that)

Speaking of Heroes,
Romney gave a great speech today. It was Reaganesque. You should find and watch it on Youtube.

Joy, you brought a silver lining to a cloudy day. I guess we can all go forward with faith! Thanks.

I’m a scarred up old football player who wants to think of himself as the hero type. I recognize now that I was feeling a little shaky today myself. Thanks for stiffening my backbone. Onward.

Out on business all day and this happens. This is so hard for me. I’ve lost two candidates now. I can’t believe how fast I got attached to Mitt. I feel like I’ve been left hanging but I know it isn’t their fault. Fred and Mitt were side-swiped. They really didn’t stand a chance against the media. It was a lock and I think most of us here understand now why this is happening. That said, it helps at a time like this to have a good pep talk and this was a great one Joy. Thanks for that. And like all of you are saying, this place still has a purpose. It wasn’t really about a single candidate. Maybe now we can make the Ron Paul people feel more welcome. Maybe even a few religious democrats and Independents too.

Thank you, Joy, for those inspiring words. I’m glad you didn’t wait until tomorrow to post them, because now we can close this roller-coaster day with renewed faith and trust. And thanks to each of you who leave comments. Its good to be able to share with friends who help support one another. I appreciate each one of you for your contribution.
I think there are also many out there who may never have commented but just keep coming back to read along. I’m glad you are out there too and look forward to hearing from you sometime.
I don’t think this is just another little blog spot. I believe it is much more than some of us realize. Remember, “By small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.” “Wherfore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.”

Hey speaking of carrying on, what happened to Peter. I haven’t partaken of his cynicism lately and I want to bounce a “conspiracy theory” off him.

Re A True Evangelical’s comment. “That man of God will save the day and all of you. (but only in mortality because only the ones who are saved have hope beyond that)” I do not expect Mike or Matt or Paul or any human being, even if he is a man of God, to be my Savior in mortality or eternity. That is the Lord’s role. Who is your savior?
Peter Says:
8 February 2008 at 12:36 pm.
Yeah so throw it at me Cavetrollhead. I got my glove out.
Sharon I may be a cynic but I’m not like A True Evangelical. Jesus is my Savior. And I am not in a position to decide whether or not another person has been saved or not. I’m not that arrogant.
Jan W. Says:

Please everyone, don’t think A True Evangelical speaks for most of us. I love my religion and believe it with all my heart. Most of my friends do not hate the Mormon people. We may not agree with Mormonism but we love the people. Mitt had a lot of votes from evangelicals, don’t forget that.
Sharon I don’t believe Mike Huckabee can save me or anybody. I only have one Savior.
Carrie Says:

We don’t think that Jan. We love you here. I think there are lots of protestants here and that is so great.
This blog made me feel brave and ready to go. I love the armored warrior on the horse.

(or in this case read) those words and it helps me prepare myself for the road ahead…THANK YOU!
