Hi Joy. Thanks so much for your warm welcome. Hamilton was one of the most plain-spoken and insightful of our Founders -- much more than the American public realizes. That is why I love his writings. How I wish we had more of his kind of people in public office today!

My "name" was actually the name of a real person! Hercules Mulligan was a close friend of Alexander Hamilton, and is one who actually helped instill these patriotic truths in Hamilton when Hamilton was still a young man. I wrote about Hercules Mulligan here. His story is truly fascinating!

I hope you don't mind links in comments, btw. If you do, I apologize. But I assure that the link is perfectly safe; it is from my other blog, The Foundation Forum -- no ads, no pop-ups, all family-friendly.

Hercules, you have such a charming name. Yes, we really loved your insight. It is amazing how pertinent our founding fathers' words are for our day isn't it? It is a good feeling knowing there are other people out there who value them so much and don't rely on the revisionist history the schools are teaching. Welcome aboard, we are happy to have you.

Hello everyone at In God We Trust.

I am honored that you should link to my blog; thank you. I will link to yours on mine. This looks like a great place; I will come back often.

Yes, Hamilton's words are indeed profound and amazing. I whole-heartedly agree with the reflections presented above. It is vital to us in our generation that we heed his words.

Yes, Jesse; I think that Hamilton would like Ron Paul. :D Hamilton's quote presented by Cindy can be summarized as Ron Paul's platform with Alexander Hamilton's lingo!

Again, I will return often.

God bless you.

If I had 200 years I could not say it better. Way to apply it to our present situation CindyL. We sure get shortsighted.

I read the discussion from yesterday on the news and comments blog about compromising some of our liberties for the sake of safety. I think the following paragraph that I copied from above answers that problem. I believe it is better to suffer a lot of present inconveniences and dangers rather than give away our rights. Once gone they never come back without bloodshed.

“Is it not better, I ask, to suffer a few present inconveniences, than to put yourselves in the way of losing every thing that is precious? Your lives, your property, your religion, are all at stake. I do my duty. I warn you of your danger. If you should still be so mad as to bring destruction upon yourselves; if you still neglect what you owe to God and man, you cannot plead ignorance in your excuse. Your consciences will reproach you for your folly; and your children’s children will curse you.” (4)

That is powerful. What a brilliant man. I wish we would study the framers' own words in college instead of other men's words about them. It would be harder to convince us they were just average joes then.

I especially like Hamilton's “But being ruined by taxes is not the worst you have to fear. What security would you have for your lives? How can any of you be sure you would have the free enjoyment of your religion long?"

Now that is powerful!

This is so interesting. It shows there really is nothing new under the sun. The modern discussion is really an old one. Lots of people don't think our constitution fits what we are going through. I don't buy it. Different labels on the bottle but the same basic ingredients. Those men found truth that applies to all mankind throughout time. That's why we can't look at what is going on now and try to find a solution outside of the constitution. That is why these new laws that are taking away those freedoms are wrong.
