Some Thoughts on the Bible

How I appreciate the great sacrifices of those brave men who translated the Bible from Greek, Hebrew, Latin and eventually into English. Wycliffe, Tindale, Coverdale, Dranmer, Rogers, and even King James are among those we can thank for bringing us the Bible in the English language.
Historically, groups of people who make a difference have a book that unites and inspires them. The Pilgrims and other colonists who came to America had such a book and their book was the Bible.
The Bible teaches that we have a Creator who has revealed a code of conduct for our personal lives and for our relationships with each other. From its pages we learn that we are accountable for the way we treat each other and that after this life we will be judged for our actions.
Did you know Founding Fathers of our country quoted the Bible more than any other source? Thirty-four percent of their quotes came directly from the Bible, mostly from the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy.
The Bible contains accounts of God’s dealings with His children and teaches us of the life and mission of His Son, Jesus Christ.
We know that Judeo-Christian values upon which our country was founded are under attack. How would we feel did not have access to the written word or if we were no longer allowed to read the Bible?
How important is the Bible to Americans today? How important is the Bible to each of us? Do we appreciate its teachings? Do we apply those teachings in our lives? What are some of your favorite passages from the Bible? Why not read a chapter or two today! Why not commit a few verses to memory and share them with someone else!
Remember: The person who doesn’t read the Bible is no better off than the person who doesn’t even know how to read.
