Divided We Fall

Posted by Joy Bischoff under: General .

Today on the Sean Hannity show, Pat Buchanan introduced his new book Day of Reckoning.

Although Sean and Pat disagree on a few issues, Sean did a good job of sticking to the things they both agreed on and that is that America is engaged in a civil war of words. In his book, Pat wrote that America is coming apart and if it continues upon its current course, then we will be on a path to national suicide.

I believe that Americans on both side of the spectrum agree that there is serious disunity, although each side would cite different reasons for the danger we are facing. Some of what Mr. Buchanan wrote will strike a chord with liberals, for instance, we are giving up a part of our freedom for perceived freedoms. Pat warns us of the dangers of creating a climate of fear that engenders power grabs of our basic rights. He says that the threat of terrorism is causing us to surrender our liberties. Conservatives may be more in agreement with Pat’s statement that we know little about our founding fathers and cites this as a perilous trend. He also warns of the dumbing down of our entire culture.

Day of Reckoning is filled with strong words regarding what Buchanan calls, “a storm of crisis”, which includes; the weak dollar, war, border security issues, and the loss of domestic manufacturing. The greatest threat of all, he states, is the loss of our common culture, a common belief and an emphasis on things that divide us and not what unite us.

Buchanan quoted statistics to what he sees as the central problem, an illegal invasion of our nation. He said that 58% of Hispanic illegals believe our Southwest belongs to them. Sadly, 72% believe that Americans are racist. I know there are a lot of racists left in our country but I truly believe it is a much smaller minority than is perceived by our Hispanic friends. I personally, have many friends who came from Mexico and they are hard working, honest people. I like to speak Spanish to them so I can practice, and they usually speak English back to me so they can practice. I am far from prejudice, but I am not blind to the fact that we are in danger of losing the glue that holds us together. Pat quoted the common idea that “ethno-cultural core” is what holds countries together. He said that the melting pot that turned us all into Americans is gone. I welcome continued legal immigration but am hoping that those new citizens would understand that we are strong when we are one. Buchanan said that people who are living in the most diversified cities say they are losing trust in each other. They explain that the various cultures can not understand each other, almost like speaking another language (even when both are speaking English).

Buchanan cited the fact that Europe is dying. There is a slow but relentless deconstruction of their culture and the gap is beginning to be filled by Islamic culture.

The book goes on to discuss “the perfect storm”, which is the fiscal crisis in Washington D.C. Pat believes we are reaching the limits of our resources. When discussing economics, Sean asked Pat about being labeled an isolationist. I have followed Mr. Buchanan for years and I know he is not waffling when he refutes that label. He has simply wanted the playing field evened out. He knows, as do I from a great deal of research, that our country has given unfair trading leverage to other countries to the detriment of our own industries, and that we have encouraged and subsidized, through large tax breaks, American big business moving jobs off shore.

Most important to me, Pat Buchanan believes that there is an orchestrated deconstruction, a revolution to destroy all laws founded in Christian doctrine. He has studied the founding of America and knows our Constitution was built upon Judeo-Christian values. To remove these values removes the very foundation of our laws. Buchanan says we now disagree on fundamentally what is right and wrong. Isaiah wrote of the day when good was seen as evil and vic versa. A strong attempt is being made to herd us into accepting these new values (or lack thereof) by using politically correct labels such as, intolerance. We can be accepting and loving toward people without accepting their beliefs. I do not call someone intolerant when they label me a radical Christian who is destroying America. Let’s not engage in name calling because divided we fall, but at the same time, let’s not remain silent. Using calm reason, we should fight these trends and not be tolerant of wrong. Pat’s book came out today and I am excited to read it and will probably blog further on his insights in the future.

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
