The Power of Prayer
A story is told about Isaac Potts, a Tory Quaker, who came upon Washington while he was on his knees in prayer.

The Power of Prayer

A story is told about Isaac Potts, a Tory Quaker, who came upon Washington while he was on his knees in prayer. Later Potts said to his wife, “…I feel a presentiment that under such a commander there can be no doubt of our eventually establishing our independence, and that God in his providence has willed it so.” ( George Washington the Christian by William J. Johnson 1976)

Washington’s prayers were answered. There is a little-know account of a miracle that occurred which helped eliminate the near starvation of the army encamped at Valley Forge.

“One foggy morning the soldiers noticed the Schuylkill River seemed to be boiling. The disturbance was caused by thousands and thousands of shad which were making their way upstream in an unusually early migration. With pitchforks and shovels, the men plunged into the water, throwing the fish onto the banks. Lee’s dragoons rode their horses into the stream to keep the shad from swimming on out of reach. Suddenly and wonderfully, there was plenty of food for the army.” (America’s Providential History by Mark A Beliles & Ktephen K. McDowell)

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3

This is an email that was circulating and was posted in march on www.specialforces.com. One more time I will say that Dave Thomas is awesome. Read his other articles. They are inspiring and are about well founded true principals.

Read it & wonder…

If only half of this is a fact I have to wonder about our press. The saddest thing about the email below is the conclusion about the media…

WE ALL SHOULD KNOW!

Did you know that 47 countries have reestablished their embassies in Iraq ? Did you know that the Iraqi government currently employs 1.2 million Iraqi people? Did you know that 3100 schools have been renovated, 364 schools are under rehabilitation, 263 new schools are now under construction. And 38 new schools have been completed in Iraq ? Did you know that Iraq’s higher educational structure consists of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research centers, all currently operating? Did you know that 25 Iraq students departed for the United States in January 2005 for the re-established Fulbright program? Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational? They have 5 100-foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels and a naval infantry regiment. Did you know that Iraq’s Air Force consists of three operational squadrons, which includes 9 reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport aircraft (under Iraqi operational corol) which operate day and night, and will soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and 4 Bell Jet Rangers? Did you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion? Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000 fully trained and equipped police officers? Did you know that there are 5 Police Academies in Iraq that produce over 3500 new officers each 8 weeks? Did you know there are more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq? They include 364 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations, 22 oil facilits, 93 water facilities and 69 electrical facilities. Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5 have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations? Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school by mid October? Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq and phone use has gone up 158%? Did you know that Iraq has an independent media that consists of 75 radio stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations? Did you know that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004? Did you know that 2 candidates in the Iraqi presidential election had a televised debate recently?

OF COURSE WE DIDN’T KNOW! WHY DIDN’T WE KNOW? OUR MEDIA HASN’T TOLD US!

Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing snowballs at the presidential motorcades. Tragically, the lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two purposes:

It is intended to undermine the world’s perception of the United States thus minimizing consequent support, and it is intended to discourage American Citizens.

—- Above facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense web site.

Many people believe that the U.S. began to slip in the world economy because of the loan bubble but the truth is, free-trade started the slide. It was never even handed and in order to pull hesitant countries into the free-trade family, our negotiators were willing to sell America down the river. According to this article, we are also the victims of inept negotiators. The business of handling electronic money floating through the atmosphere cannot long sustain a nation. Manufacturing and farming will always be the foundation of real stability. Thanks to Peter Anderson for sending this along.

Free-Trade Chaos: Adios to U.S. Manufacturing

By Richard McCormack

Politicians Don’t Understand: Textile Maker Copland Industries Says Multinationals Are Killing The U.S. Economy

The federal government no longer represents the interest of U.S. manufacturing companies and their workers, instead siding with the Communist Chinese government that is putting hundreds of thousands of Americans out of good paying jobs, according to James Copland, chairman of Copland Industries/Copland Fabrics of Burlington, N.C. “The U.S. government’s policy is creating millions of jobs all right, but it is creating them in the People’s Republic of China and Vietnam at the expense of hardworking Americans here at home,” Copland told a congressional hearing. “Our country should be ashamed — totally ashamed - of what our government has done to working people in America.”

The U.S. government recognized problems with the communist Soviet Union, “but for some reason it fails to see it with China,” Copland told a hearing of the House Science Committee’s subcommittee on oversight and investigations on May 22. U.S. government free trade and manufacturing policies are the reason for the current economic slump and the gloomy attitude Americans have about their economic prospects. U.S. manufacturing “is in the midst of a crisis unprecedented since the Great Depression,” Copland said.

“Deeply flawed U.S. trade policy toward domestic manufacturing is the single most important root cause of the illness. Every American deserves the right to provide for his family, to own a home and to educate his kids, but our flawed manufacturing and trade policies are taking this away,” Copland told members of Congress. “Our Constitutional preamble says ‘a government of the people, by the people and for the people.’ We have forgotten about the words ‘for the people.’ “. . .

“We have got to start paying attention to what we are doing with these trade agreements. We have to get some people who know what they are doing with these trade agreements. We are being out negotiated. We better start paying attention to what we are doing because let me tell you something, we are exporting the wealth of this country as fast as we can export it. It is going offshore. We are going to pay one tremendous price in this country.”

From ABC News:

Investors looking for some good news as the stock market headed into the second half of the year were disappointed today as the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 166 points and officially entered the much-dreaded bear market territories.

Wall Street officially became home to a new bear market today as the Dow plunged 20 percent below its October high. Oil’s record price and a report showing poor results on factory orders.

It was only back on Oct. 9 when the Dow hit its all-time record high close of 14,164.53 points.

The Dow closed today at 11,215, down more than 20 percent from the October high, officially making this a bear market.

Driving down stocks today was yet another new record for oil and a poor report showing poor factory orders. Oil closed at $143.57 a barrel today, up $2.60 in just one day. Also leading to today’s sell-off was fear from investors about tomorrow’s government report on employment in June and an analyst report downgrading automaker GM, sending its shares plummeting.

Nobody needed this official designation to know things are bad on Wall Street.

It has been a miserable 2008 for stocks, thanks to a bad housing market, credit problems that have shaken the nation’s largest banks, skyrocketing oil prices and declining automobile sales.
