Global Warming Newspeak
Posted by Terrie Soberg under: Environment .
Global Warming is no longer the “in” catchphrase. Scientists around the world disagree with pronouncement of the climate crisis made famous by Al Gore. Americans are quickly losing interest in the face of much more pressing situations and now environmentalists are required to be creative in an attempt to engage the public once again. The New York Times came out with an article on the group EcoAmerica who is not too happy about this information being leaked to the public. Sneaky tactics are not effective when exposed to the light of day!
Fox News summarized the article with the following:
Leaked Recommendations:
- Replace “Global Warming” with “Climate Crisis”
- Use “Pollution” instead of “Carbon”
- Use “New Energy Jobs” instead of “Green Jobs”
- Use Patriotic Terms like “American Ingenuity” and “Power of “America”
Note this audacious quote from the Times article:
“Another key finding: remember to speak in TALKING POINTS aspirational language about shared American ideals, like freedom, prosperity, independence and self-sufficiency while avoiding jargon and details about policy, science, economics or technology,” said the e-mail account of the group’s study.
Obviously we Americans are too stupid to catch on to this tactic. The sad part is, I think in many cases they are probably right.
