Read to Vote Asks for Pledges
Posted by Terrie Soberg under: Constitution in Peril .
I hurt my back somehow last week and I’ve spent most of the past several days lying in bed. As I rested this afternoon, I started to ponder various things going on in the country. Right before I dozed off, I decided that I should make a page that requested Senators and Congressmen to promise to read the Health Care Bill in its entirety before they voted on it. I wanted to list all 535 members by name and put whether or not they would sign a pledge.
When I woke up, the television was on Fox News. One of the first stories I saw was about a new website named Read to Vote that is asking that very thing, not only of the health care bill, but of every bill that comes to the floor of the House and Senate.
They are also asking our citizens to commit to reading the bills themselves. The site still needs some work, but according to their information, they have received 11,616 pledges since 9/8/09.
There is not a place that lists the Congress members by name, but I still think that would be a good idea. Let’s hold everyone accountable–Democrats, Republicans, and all citizens of the United States of America!
Visit the Read to Vote site.
