If Education Helps Preserve Freedom…

then we are in trouble.

The blog directly below this discusses the importance of education in maintaining a free society. Of course the wrong kind of education can have the opposite effect as we have seen in communist countries. Strictly secular education is also a serious threat to the preservation of freedom.

Poor learning skills and apathy make it easy to not comprehend principles of freedom or to notice when they are being eroded. Without clear vision fear can over-ride reason.

Here is a short excerpt about a further problem with education,… the lack thereof:

Only 1 of 2 students graduate high school in US cities: study

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Three out of 10 US public school students do not graduate from high school, and major city school districts only graduate one out of two students, according to a study released Tuesday.

Not only do not those students know the importance and causes of the freedom, but they also has no marketable skills. This means many of them will end up on welfare, emergency rooms, and prisons. All of those will require more money from the taxpayers.

Then, there is the lack of morals and they all pretty much is the “me, me and me” generation. They will make things going their ways, whether it takes. In other words, we will see more gangs and such. They will put strain on our police force, and with decreasing gun rights, we will be unable to defend our properties. And with our Washington leaders being the most wise people in this country, public school systems will see shovels of money.

This is just a glance of how we will approach this problem. Yeah, our country indeed is spiraling out of control — totally!

I had a grandma who read the Bible all the time and use to talk to us kids about what things were going to be like in the end times before the Lord came. I would look around at the world and I couldn’t imagine how things were going to get that bad. Now I am beginning to see how it is all going to happen just like the Bible said.

Mac, any particular verses come to mind? For me, when I look around, I kept thinking of Jesus’s explanation about the coming of end of the world (Matthews 24, KJV, and my apologies in advance for inserting my thoughts into and emphasising some points in God’s Word):

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

(Sounds like one of the current candidate, doesn’t it?)

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

(This is where I am grateful for people like Joy and Sharon, reminding us not to be “troubled”)

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

(We are looking at the third world war here)

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

(And it’s only a beginning! What we are seeing now is only a beginning, but let us not be troubled! :) )

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

(This is Jesus addressing his disciples, the Christians and other goodly men and women, and this hatred is already beginning to happen, even from within our own nation!)

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

(The compassion will go out of window, as we are beginning to see with many liberals, as proved by a recent research quoted on this blog earlier.)

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

(Let’s remember this! So, let’s endure in knowing Christ is always there for us and that he shall save us.)

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

(The end being the second coming of our Lord. The Book of Revelation covers this end in some depth, but the point is that the end will not happen until the Gospel is preached in ALL THE WORLD, and this cannot happen without us Christians. Here, we will be seeing miracles, where we would somehow be able to preach to all nations, even with all hatred against us and many attempts to kill us. So, remember to endure to the end!)

That was awesome SGS. It is so easy to get scared about stuff that’s coming but this reminds us that it was all prophesied. We know who is going to win in the end and we know if we stick with God then no matter what happens to us here we will get to be with him forever so we shouldn’t be afraid but trust him.

Kids lately are getting lazy and stupid, they don’t think about there future they only thing about now. They think it is better to work now instead of “wasting” there time and money on college.

One thing I like about this place is that you can discuss God without it becoming fanatic or weird and that is getting rare now days. It is usually either taboo or over the top, rarely balanced.

One thing I know for sure is happening from Mathew 24 and that is the love of a lot of people is growing cold.

I knew the drop out problem had gotten worse but had no idea it was this bad. I am shocked.

In addition to this disturbing news, it is appalling to see how little prepared my students are. It is hard to build on a foundation that isn’t there. I feel like a middle school English teacher whenever I grade essays.

Stumpy Says:

Well duh Dr. Smarty. Thats cuz the whole blasted country is tryin ta prove right in front a God an everybody that they aint smarter than a fifth grader.

From what I see from my kids, some of the teachers are more worried about sensitivity training than teaching solid basics. Thank goodness there are exceptions to that but it makes us try and stay on top of their education so make sure they are going to be ready for college.

Nalvy Says:

Amen Stumpy!!! I find it sad that grown men and women can not prove they are smarter than a fifth grader! I have watched that show and will admit the stuff like math (I have never grasped math fully but I try) stumps me but everything else is a breeze!

I find our education system absolutely disgusting! Honestly I really do. Our Nation’s youth are learning more how to being selfish slobs than being intelligent leaders of tomorrow! I graduated high school last year and it absolutely infuriated me that my school had ten or so Valedictorians… if school is so easy that TEN kids can be tied for such a high honor something has got to be changed.

SOmething I personally believe is no help in schools is that idiotic No Child Left Behind. THose of us in school who wished to learn and a faster pace had to wait to the moron in the back who slept during class to understand something we have been going over for a month!!! I understand when someone genuinely does not understand but when the person is highly capable of grasping the concept and simply doesnt give the effort he is not only holding himself back but he is also holding back the progress of his peers!

Matt Says:

Boiling learning down to the least common denominator is no way to help our country get ahead. No Child Left Behind if you are hiking means everyone has to go as slow as the last person. Leave an adult back there to help that hiker along but let the rest move out at their own pace.

I have been around long enuf to observe that schools have been deteriorating since they lowered the dress code and allowed blue jeans in school. If one has more than one student it is easy to compare great, good, OK, and downright lousy education. There are many great teachers out there; still they aren’t always able to teach what they want to teach or even are best qualified to teach. Currently “the test” is the goal…and when testing time rolls around, all efforts are focussed on the test. Hmm…the test rates students, but does it not also rate teachers? If a teacher teaches “properly” the students will test well; if not, they won’t. I was at a Mitt rally awhile back. Someone there had some thoughts about education. I asked him what HE thought would help the US…he said for parents to see what their kids are learning in social studies. Many of the teachers don’t know the constitution, etc. I wonder how many constitution questions are asked in “the tests”? Do all the students you know say the pledge everyday? What happened to spelling bees? What happened to good grammar? People may have computers with spell check, but that really doesn’t teach them to speak proper English… If a kid isn’t doing so well in school, just put him in a class that doesn’t do so well…they will pass with a D minus so how hard does a teacher have to work to get the kids excited to learn… OK…stepping off the soapbox before I become verbose…

Standardized Tests has ruined the public school system. You nailed it Bunny.

I was both home schooled and public schooled. The big difference I saw was that at school they focused so much on input in – input out, that there was no focus on learning to love learning. My mom did a great job home schooling and I was excited every day to learn. She taught me things that make me see the world as a whole unit and not broken up parts that didn’t connect. I had some good public school teachers but I could see how discouraged they got with the way the students hated to learn and wouldn’t be respectful. I am going to home school my kids if I am lucky enough to have a family. Right now I am loving college.

I’ve been away from the computer all day and am finally getting caught up. Mac and SGS did a great job of reminding us about the importance of the Bible and knowing what it says. Thanks a bunch! One reason I have homeschooled our children for the past 12 years is so we can spend as much time as we want studying the scriptures. We don’t have to be “politically correct” and can focus of values and truth. I don’t have to shove my children out the door to have the schedules and values of government school imposed upon them. I am so grateful to be a homeschool mom.

Unfortunately too many parents are ill-equipped to home school their kids. School often becomes a means of “free babysitting.” Perhaps mandatory parenting classes should also be a requisite. For those who don’t home school, get involved with PTA and/or Site Councils…find a venue to make your voice heard. Even as decay occurs over time, building up also takes one brick at a time. This site is a good foundation…it is refreshing to read the comments of solid bricks.

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
