A Tribute to Mitt Romney

Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Presidential Election 2008 .

All day I have struggled with what to write as my thoughts and feelings have swirled around the political landscape. I promised yesterday to share my observation of a Romney discussion site. I will put that off until tomorrow and instead offer this tribute to Mitt.

After working far harder than any other ex-political candidate for the campaign of John McCain, the thing I feared and shared with our readers here has happened. Mitt was courted, vetted, used and up until Friday morning, left hanging as to the VP position. It was a brilliant move on McCain’s part. His hatred for Mitt was too deep to over come. Being the true maverick, he flouted the party choice and the advise of his experts. He got what he needed from Mitt; twenty million in fund raising and Mitt urging his supporters to back McCain. Then he walked away. This is what he will do with his promises to America if he becomes president, especially things close to his heart like the border issue.

Romney has handled the snub with class but tonight, as he was shuffled to a non-prime time slot before Huckabee, I was able to see that the barbs found their mark. He put on a brave face but his confidence has been shaken. He was not the same ole Mitt. It took him awhile to get rolling and although he did a beautiful job, I sensed the bruises. It had to be hard to face the fact that being a Mormon could bring so much abuse.

As I watched Huckabee speak, I could sense his elation. His speech did not center around John McCain as much as Mitt’s had. Huckabee slipped in jabs about politicians who had been born with a silver spoon in their mouth and could not relate to every day Americans as he could. He could not leave Mitt alone even at the McCain convention.

Last of all, I want to publicly say to Governor Romney, that it isn’t the hatred of Mormons that has brought about the enmity between you and those you ran against, it is envy. Those men cannot bear to be near a man who outshines them at every turn and in every way. It is your noble character that energizes so many Americans and makes the media and corrupt politicians gnash their teeth. While I do not agree with you on every issue, your integrity is why I supported you and why I hope you will run in 2012. Good luck.

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
