Law of the Harvest

A few months ago I planted seeds in small peat pots so I could get a head start on the growing season. However, because of an unusually cold spring, I had to keep the plants inside much longer than desirable and they failed to thrive.

squash.jpgThere may have also been other things I should have done but didn’t. Admittedly, I still need to learn more about gardening, but thankfully, the baby plants I bought at the nursery are flourishing (see photo). I have started harvesting broccoli, zucchini, and yellow squash.

All of us understand that squash seedlings, when they mature, will yield squash. This law of the harvest applies not only gardening but to spiritual matters as well. There may be variables (like a cold spring) or factors that we do not know or understand (does my soil lack nutrients), but if we can learn and follow the laws that apply, we can predict the outcome.

If we are wise, we will seek to discover the laws that will bring about the results we desire. We can ask ourselves, “What do I really want? What principles or laws do I need to follow to achieve that end?” For example, if we want the love and respect or others, there are certain things that we will need to do to gain that love and respect. There are also things that we will avoid doing.

If we desire that peace which passes all understanding, if we desire eternal life, and we follow the Lord’s prescribed plan, we can be confident that we will obtain those blessings.

“There is a law, irrevocably decreed …upon which all blessings are predicated, and when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.”

and that is why America is rocking like a boat in a storm right now. Not enough of us are following God. Since it illegal to have the Ten Commandments in public, and since morality can’t be taught in the schools, we aren’t going to have the blessings we could have.

The founding fathers understood this principal. Nice blog Sharon.

Hawk and Matt, you are both right on. In ancient times when Israel had forsaken the Lord, Hosea said, “They have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whilrwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up…” (see Hosea *:7-14) Unless things change it seems that our nation will likewise reap the whirlwind.

Great blog about consequences for actions. It only makes sense. Reaping a whirlwind doesn’t sound like too much fun.

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
