This is what it should all come down to, whether you have a pet or not.
Pet owners prefer McCain over Obama
By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) — If the presidential election goes to the dogs, John McCain is looking like best in show.
From George Washington’s foxhound “Drunkard” to George W. Bush’s terriers “Barney” and “Miss Beazley,” pets are a longtime presidential tradition for which the presumed Republican nominee seems well prepared, with more than a dozen.
The apparent Democratic nominee Barack Obama, on the other hand, doesn’t have a pet at home.
The pet-owning public seems to have noticed the difference.
An AP-Yahoo! News poll found that pet owners favor McCain over Obama 42 percent to 37 percent, with dog owners particularly in McCain’s corner.
“I think a person who owns a pet is a more compassionate person — caring, giving, trustworthy. I like pet owners,” said Janet Taylor of Plymouth, Mass.

This is incredibly exciting to me. This means they are willing to prepare to meet the challenges and take responsibility. This means that we were right and the Iraqi people do not want occupation. But will those factions of our government go along with it? If not then for me it will be proof that they want to control the oil just like so many have suggested.
Iraq insists on withdrawal timetable
BAGHDAD - Iraq’s national security adviser says his country will not accept any deal with the United States unless the agreement sets specific dates for the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces.
The comments by Mouwaffak al-Rubaie come a day after Iraq’s prime minister first said publicly that he expects the pending troop deal with the United States to have some type of timetable for withdrawal.
President Bush has said he opposes a timetable.
Al-Rubaie told reporters Tuesday the country “will not accept any memorandum of understanding that doesn’t have specific dates to withdraw foreign forces.”

Matt, most of us here have also agreed that we have a responsibility to make sure things are done right over there. We can’t leave if that would mean there would be a blood bath. The Iraqi government is just bowing to outside pressures or wanting power and they have no idea the mess that would be left on there hands if we pull out.

Mac, they are the legitimate government of Iraq. If they want us gone then they should have the power to do that. If we don’t honor their wishes then it is an occupation. Compulsive government over a sovereign country is very wrong and dictatorial. We don’t have the right to do it. I’m glad to see them wanting to take responsibility and standing on their own two feet. It will be hard but in the long run it will be better for the Middle East and for relations between Muslims and the west if we do get out. Only then would all the accusers believe we weren’t just there for the oil and for occupation. But like Matt said…will we? Are we?

We took down a government. We helped them set up a government. We have improved their society with new schools, hospitals and many other buildings. We have arrested or killed many terrorist leaders. The new Iraq government says they can handle it from here and want us out now.
If the media would admit this information then there would be no problem saying, “We have succeeded in accomplishing our goals. This new sovereign nation asked us to discontinue our support and the US will respect their wishes.” This is the kind of statement that, said with the real facts, are going to change peoples mind about what is going on over seas.

I don’t think we will respect their wishes. I don’t think we will get out no matter what they want and that will bring about some serious long term consequences.

If we have an organized time table then we could avoid that. Pulling out some, then more troops will let them test the water and see if they are ready. I agree Mac that a mass pull out will be bloody for who ever is left holding the bag. We can avoid that and a time table is the perfect median.

I agree with you Bryon. That’s the only good answer.

Benjamin you are so right. It is their country. But those those in our administration and corporations who benefit from the US occupation will be against our leaving and may create a big excuse for us to stay. I’m just afraid it will be Iran.

I agree Sharon.
