Court: Sect children should be returned to parents

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Supreme Court has ruled that children taken from a polygamist sect’s ranch should be returned to their parents, saying child welfare officials overstepped their authority.

The high court on Thursday affirmed a decision last week by an appeals court that said Child Protective Services failed to show an immediate danger to the more than 400 children swept up from the Yearning For Zion Ranch nearly two months ago.

The ruling directs a lower-court judge to reverse her decision putting the children into foster case. The appeals court ordered the judge to return the children to the parents soon but it is unclear exactly when that will happen.

That is so great. What is really good is with all the scrutiny, we have to hope that the FLDS will change their practice of early marriages so that will help.

Good for justice but I still hate to see those kids go back into that place.

I hate to see a lot of kids raised to believe their dear beloved Grandpa is going to hell because he was a Buddhist, or their sweet little friend is going to purgatory because he wasn’t baptized before he was hit by a car. I believe that when Christ comes he will abolished such emotionally and psychologically abusive doctrines. I also hate to see ghetto kids raised to be 13 year old murderers or permanent welfare Moms by age 15. Government kidnapping is not the solution, until Christ is the Government.

There are many worse places than a loving FLDS family. It may have ultimately a good experience for these kids though to have experienced a little of the “real” world.

And god bless America . . . what a great country- nipping in the bud, ruling from the Gut.

Cavetrollhead, I keep thinking the same thing. There are worse places for these kids. Most ghetto kids are in a worse environment. Why doesn’t the MSM talk about that? Cause they would get blasted by a ghetto blaster. Sorry, bad joke.

No- cute joke. No kidding Cindy- I think because people don’t know the difference between moral and ethical virtues, and societal norms. Maybe Societal norms determine what is distasteful to a person more than the conscience given by the light of Christ. I remember how distasteful the doctrine of “turning the other cheek was to me for most my life and I still struggle with that one, but I know it is right.

I am against forced marriage at any age- don’t get me wrong. And I don’t find the FLDS religion of lifestyle, the right way. And I think the individuals responsible for forcing these decisions on others ought to be held responsible. But they didn’t go after the individuals responsible- they just reacted to their distaste of the religious sect and made one of the stupidest decisions I have seen for a long time.

Like I have said before- compare FLDS religion to Ghetto welfare Mothers (a legal practice in this country.) Society abhors polygamy, but having many children from different men, out of wedlock, letting the taxpayer pay for them, is overlooked without comment. Does the gvt raid the Ghettos?
The differences here from the profession of Welfare Mother:
Instead of a woman having sex with many men, it is reversed.
Instead of one-night stands, their is a religious vow by each parent.
Instead of the kids not knowing who their father is, FLDS kids know both parents intimately. Instead of the tax payer paying for the kids unwillingly, the FLDS community supports them gladly.
Instead of being raised in an environment of drugs, gangs, and murder, the FLDS kids are kept clean, and safe, and trained to abide a by strict code of religious conduct.
Instead of being stuck in poverty and in a cycle of violence, FLDS kids are prepared by adulthood to leave their homes, and community and even their religion- as many do.

Where would you rather your kids were? In the Ghetto or with the FLDS. If you answer Ghetto, what planet are you from?

What this boils down to is religious intolerance

Cave, if it is of any consolation, this verse you quoted is one of most misunderstood verses. The exact wording of Matthew 5:29 is: (from King James Version)

But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

The key word to look for here is “right cheek”. Think about this — why does it matter which cheek you are being hit? Most of the people are right handed. So, if I am standing in front of you, and hit you with my right hand, how could I hit you on your right cheek? Your right cheek is to my left. My hand is on the same side as your left cheek. The only way I could hit you on your right cheek is with the back of my hand. Yes, this is about being insulted rather than being physically attacked. Europeans are not the only people who insult others by slapping them in the cheek with back of hand. Jews do the same thing. It has nothing to do with being a passive victim of the violent actions. If you are wondering about this part, remember, Jesus asked his disciplines the night before he was captured if they have sword. It is ok for us to physically defend ourselves, but it is not ok for us to slash out after being insulted. Our culture have dwindled to the point that you could be killed just because you have said or shown wrong things. Think how people around you could respond when you say “homosexuals are evil” out in public, and you get a gist of what this verse means.

Wow SGS, that was fascinating. It makes a lot of sense.

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
