Tenn. GOP mocks Michelle Obama’s ‘proud’ remark
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Republican Party “welcomed” Michelle Obama’s visit for a fundraiser Thursday night with an online video that takes the Democratic presidential front-runner’s wife to task for a comment some considered unpatriotic.
Michelle Obama was campaigning in Wisconsin last February for her husband, Barack Obama, when she said: “For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country.”
The four-minute video posted on YouTube is built around the remark, replaying it six times and interspersing it with commentary by Tennesseans, identified mostly by their first names, on why they are proud of America.
Michelle Obama later clarified the remark, saying she meant she was proud of how Americans were engaging in the political process and that she had always been proud of her country.
“The Tennessee Republican Party has always been proud of America,” the party said in a news release that included a link to the video. It also urged radio stations to play “patriotic music” during her visit to Nashville on Thursday.

A little mean but too funny.
I got this in an email.
Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.
Well, for example, the other day I went downtown and into a shop. I was only there for about 5 minutes and when I came out there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. I said to him, ‘Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break?’
He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a ‘doughnut eating Nazi.’ He glared at me and wrote another ticket for having worn tires. So I called him a ‘flatfooted oinker.’ He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he wrote a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him the more tickets he wrote. Personally, I didn’t care. I came downtown on the bus, and the car that he was putting the tickets on had a bumper sticker that said ‘Obama in ‘08.’
I try to have a little fun each day now that I’m retired. It’s important to my health.

Bin Laden: Palestinian cause fuels holy war
2 hours, 18 minutes ago
CAIRO, Egypt - Osama bin Laden says in a new message that al-Qaida will continue its holy war against Israel and its allies until it liberates Palestine.
Friday’s message comes as President Bush wraps up his visit to Israel to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Jewish state.
Bin Laden says the fight for the Palestinian cause is the most important factor driving al-Qaida’s war with the West and fueled the Sept. 11 attacks.
The authenticity of the close to 10 minute message could not be verified, but it was posted on a Web site commonly used by al-Qaida.

Oil price surges to record high above $127
The price of oil rocketed to a record high point of 127.43 dollars per barrel on Friday, as US President George W. Bush prepared to urge Saudi Arabia to pump more crude, analysts said.
New York’s main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for June delivery, beat the previous peak of 126.98 that was set on Tuesday owing to worries about tight supplies despite a downgrade to global oil demand growth for 2008.

Strong aftershock hits China quake epicenter
BEICHUAN, China - A strong aftershock sparked landslides Friday near the epicenter of this week’s powerful earthquake, while some survivors were pulled from rubble after being buried for four days.
The first foreign rescue workers since Monday’s magnitude 7.9 temblor were allowed to the scene, and helicopters dropped leaflets urging people to “unite together” and providing survival tips.
An aftershock rattled parts of central Sichuan province Friday afternoon, the official Xinhua News Agency said, citing its reporters at the scene. A number of vehicles were buried on a road leading to the epicenter, and casualties were unknown.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the latest tremor measured magnitude 5.5, one of the strongest among dozens that have shaken the area.

The situation in China is bad. I read about one town they reached yesterday where almost everyone was dead. It had 120,000 people in it. So this place wasn’t a part of the earlier estimated death toll. We may never know how many died.

The following information came accompanied by a photo of the woman in her beautifully furnished home including a gigantic wide screen TV. I could mention how I feel about all this but I think the woman does a good enough job herself, only she doesn’t know it.
Sharon Jasper has been victimized. Sharon Jasper has been rabidly wronged. She has become a Section 8 care case ‘the victim of ever changing public housing policies. Sharon Jasper has spent 57 or her 58 years dedicated to one cause and one cause only, and has nothing to show for her dedicated servitude. She has lived in Section 8 housing all but 1 of her 58 years. It was a legacy passed down from her parents who moved into Section 8 housing in 1949 when she was six months old. She has passed the legacy down to her children, but fears they may have to get jobs to pay for the utilities and deposits. She laments about her one year hiatus from the comfort of her Section 8 nirvana, ‘I tried it for a year…..you know, working and all. It’s not anything I would want to go through again, or wish on anyone in my family, but I am damn proud of that year.’
Sharon was moved out of her St. Bernard housing project after hurricane Katrina and into a new, yet albeit, substandard quarterage. As can be noted from the above photo of her new Section 8 home, it is repugnant and not suitable for someone of Sharon Jasper’s seniority status in the system. ‘Don’t be fooled by them hardwood floors,’ says Sharon. ‘They told me they were putting in scraped wood floors cause it was more expensive and elegant, but I am not a fool. That was just a way to make me take scratched up wood because I am black. The 60 inch HD TV? It may look nice, but it is not a plasma. It’s not a plasma because I’m black. Now they want me to pay a deposit and utilities on this dump. Do you know why?’
She has held her tongue in silence through the years of abuse by the system, but it came to a head at the New Orlean’s city council meeting where discussions were under way about the tearing down of the St. Bernard projects. When a near riotous exchange between groups opposing the tearing down of St. Bernard and groups wanting the dilapidated buildings torn down and newer ones built, Sharon unleashed verbal hell with her once silenced tongue. The object of her oratory prowess was an acquiescent poor white boy in attendance. The context of her scathing rebuke was, ‘Just because you pay for my house, my car, my big screen and my food, I will not be treated like a slave!’ and ‘Back up and Shut up! Shut up, white boy! Shut up, white boy!’
Recapping from the mental log of the city council minutes in her head, Sharon repines, ‘Our families have been displaced all over the United States. They are being forced to commit crimes in cities they are unfamiliar with. It is a very uncomfortable situation for them. Bring them back, then let’s talk about redevelopment.’ Sharon directs the reporter’s attention across the street to Duncan Plaza where homeless people are living in tents and states that, ‘I might do better out there with one of these tents.’ She further lamented her sentiments about her situation, ‘I might be poor, but I don’t have to live poor.’
Doesn’t this just break your heart!

Rain deepens Myanmar misery; death toll spikes
YANGON (Reuters) - Torrential rain lashed victims of Cyclone Nargis on Friday as Myanmar’s junta admitted more than 130,000 people were dead or missing, putting the disaster on a par with a 1991 cyclone that killed 143,000 in neighboring Bangladesh.
In a shock update to a death toll that had consistently lagged behind international aid agency estimates, state television in the army-ruled former Burma said 77,738 people were dead and another 55,917 missing.
The May 2 storm has left another 2.5 million people clinging to survival in the delta, where thousands of destitute victims are lining roadsides, begging for help in the absence of large-scale government or foreign relief operations.

Concerned American, that story turns my stomach. It really seems like a lot of people out there really don’t get it. Can’t they put two and two together and realize it all has to come from somewhere? What is going to happen with people like that when the economy collapses some day and everybody has to make it on their own? I know the answer to that, I think. Roving gangs.

Huckabee Jokes about Obama Getting Shot at
@ 4:32 pm by Andy Barr
During a speech to the National Rifle Association convention in Louisville, Kentucky Friday, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee joked to the audience that an offstage noise was Barack Obama avoiding gunfire.
“That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he’s getting ready to speak,” Huckabee said. “Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”
The line was met with laughter.
