Please, Not Again!
Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Constitution in Peril .
Because the FLDS live in compounds and want to keep to themselves, the authorities are suspicious and are closely watching the sect in South Dakota. I wonder why those FLDS members would feel a need to live together in a closed community? Don’t they trust the rest of America to be understanding of their religious differences? Don’t they believe we will respect their Constitutional rights to religious freedom? Darn right they don’t.
For those who say they don’t deserve it because they live polygamy, tell me that after we have seriously cracked down on prostitutes, homosexuals, pornographers, etc. And tell that to dozens of families in the FLDS compound in Texas who had their children taken away from them even though they weren’t practicing polygamy. Half of those who lost their children weren’t polygamists. This is nothing less than religious persecution. There are other ways to help these people understand to have their daughters wait until they are older to marry.
S.D. town watches polygamist sect
By William M. Welch, USA TODAY
PRINGLE, S.D. — Just down the dirt road that passes Cookie Hickstein’s home, an isolated group of neighbors has drawn intense interest here in the sparsely populated Black Hills.
The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) has put roots on 140 acres of rugged territory. It is the same sect as at the ranch near Eldorado, Texas, where the practice of men taking multiple wives and allegations of sexual abuse of underage girls have sparked a custody battle over more than 400 children.
No such allegations have been made here, but local police worry about whether they can do their job when many of the people in their jurisdiction live in a closed, secretive society.
“It’s difficult,” Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler says. “They don’t just open their doors. It’s a locked-down operation, a locked fence. … I don’t get precise answers, and yes, that concerns me.”
South Dakota is among a handful of states where the FLDS has set up polygamist compounds. The others are in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and Texas, and in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

I’m glad you blogged again about this travesty of justice. I was surfing tonight and found articles about the FLDS and was encouraged that almost everyone who comments is upset about the religious rights being trampled on in Texas. I liked the following comment by a guy named Floyd:
Today,Sunday 4/27 In The Washington Post. Is a story that should cause fear to any citizen of this country.
It says that even though there was NO actual abuse of any child at the FLDS compound, the state of Texas will prove that the belief system of the FLDS is abuse in and of itself.
This means Texas will attempt to declare a RELIGOUS group illegal.
What’s next?? a state list of approved churches??
Is YOUR church on the list??
I don’t support the belief’s of the FLDS but I support the right to believe what ever they want as GUARANTEED by our Constitution. This has been to Court many times and the Constitution won every time.
The state admission of NO ABUSE found and the TRUE direction of the state should be apparent now. BUT all the people that blindly go on believing the state sponsored lies won’t believe the truth.

Jesse, I’m glad you copied that comment. It really made me think. Texas will attempt to declare a religious group illegal. That makes this dangerous for all of us. It really is setting a scary legal precedence. If we teach our kids our beliefs then we are brain washing us and they will turn out crazy to. They might believe in God and not believe we came from apes. Where will it stop? How can they get away with taking kids from the non-polygamous FLDS who didn’t even marry off younger daughters? How could they paint them all with the same brush? Even if they end up turning some of those kids back to the parents what kind of damage has already been done by the foster care system and what kind of trust will those kids have for courts and authorities? This is a disaster for liberty.

It took me awhile to get over my disgust of the idea of polygamy to see what this was really about. There is no question that this is based on religious intolerance and that really is frightening. Texas has no intention on helping these families get straightened out as far as moving into the twenty first century and not marrying young girls. They want to stomp out this religion completely.

Why are you attacking the homosexuals? I may not like their lifestyle but it isn’t like forcing girls into polygamous marriage.

I agree Peter. There is a lot of difference between homosexuals and forcing innocent young girls into these wacko so called marriages. It is just sick and I can’t believe they are defending this here. There is no excuse for this kind of attitude.

Go read the new blog above this one. She explains why she mentioned the homosexual issue.
You guys sound just like the Germans who hated the Jews so much. If anything is different you don’t see the people as human.

Hey Peter and Irritated ever heard of human trafficking? Many UNDERAGE girls get sold into a life of prostitution… and there are thousands of sexual abuse cases each year involving underage girls NOT of the polygamist life style… it happens everywhere so make sure you clean up your world before attacking theirs.
Oh and persecution ahs to start somewhere…first religion and then lifestyles… The Nazi’s did not only attack the Jews. They attempted to destroy anyone who didnt fit their picture of perfection.
