Food Riots Close to Home

Now the American MSM is reporting about food riots since it has hit so close to home. Let’s pray this doesn’t spread.
Haitian president fails to restore order
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - A desperate appeal from the president Wednesday failed to restore order to Haiti’s shattered capital, and bands of looters sacked stores, warehouses and government offices.
Gunfire rang out from the wealthy suburbs in the hills to the starving slums below as 9,000 U.N. peacekeepers were unable to halt a frenzy of looting and violence that has grown out of protests over rising food prices.
Thousands of people were in the streets of Port-au-Prince following President Rene Preval’s speech, many looting stores and terrorizing drivers and shopkeepers with rocks. Thousands more took part other in protests across the country.
An uneasy calm settled in by late Wednesday, with stores remaining closed but protesters mostly dispersed and many roadblocks abandoned.

This is out of control. We need a solution to this now. I don’t know anything about the subject so you guys should talk about this.

It amazes me that there is nothing on the major news networks addressing this problem. There should be a national dialog about stopping the biofuel fiasco. We need that corn as food. A lot of other countries like Indonesia are having the same problem. The deal is, global warming is the god of the liberals and they would rather have biofuels and let people die of starvation because they want the population reduced anyway.

Well then I say we should all go and steal the biofuel corn and give it to the starving people of the world! Forget global warming! We have global starvation going on that is more urgent and more pressing! My english teacher last year told us that Global Warming is already occuring and there basically wasnt much we could do to further prevent it… I dont know if he was true or not but hinestly if I had the choice I would help those who are hungry rather then the icebergs. Sorry I just value human life greatly.

Nalvy, we are experiencing global cooling right now. There hasn’t been warning since 1998.

I don’t like the fact that there isn’t a word about this today anywhere I can find. It makes me feel like we’re living in the old Soviet Union where the press was controlled. It also seems very arrogant and makes it look like we don’t care about the suffering that is going on in the third world and that isn’t reflective of every day Americans. We are a generous and compassionate people. The MSM isn’t though.

Maybe things calmed down and there is nothing to report today.

Haiti, Egypt, Southeast Asia, no there are too many places where this is happening. Almost nothing about this has been in our news.

I’m thinking that they don’t want people making runs on food and hoarding because that could cause a problem where it isn’t to bad here yet. The thing is that people really do need to be putting away extra food right now so I don’t know what can be done to balance those two problems.

Dave and I went to a discount store yesterday to look for a gift for my daughter. While we were standing in line, the owner was talking to another man. They were discussing how much the price of doughnuts has gone up. He said that the price of a bag of flour went from $9 per bag in December to $39 per bag last month. That’s more than a 400% increase in less than four months. Our congregation at church is consolidating orders for Walton Feed in Idaho. I received an email today from the person in charge letting us know that we are not able to order any wheat. Talk about scary!

Terrie that is a scary story.
Matt, you describe a real problem. People do need to get prepared but that will make things worse. I can’t figure out a good answer for that except maybe to grow a garden if you are able.
