I heard this on the nightly news. They were saying it doesn’t matter if we lower the drinking age because they will do it anyway. But there is a big difference between that and giving them permission. It’s like knowing a lot of kids will have sex. You don’t hand out birth control because that encourages them and makes you complicit. This is not good. Twenty one is a much more mature age than eighteen. Three years doesn’t seem like a lot but right at that age it is.

States weigh lowering drinking age

Debate over lowering the drinking age is heating up in several states, fueled in part by legislators who contend that men and women who are old enough to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan are responsible enough to buy alcohol legally.

Legislation introduced in Kentucky, Wisconsin and South Carolina would lower the drinking age for military personnel only. A planned ballot initiative in Missouri would apply to everyone 18 and older. An initiative in the works in South Dakota would allow all 19- and 20-year-olds to buy low-alcohol beer.

Vermont’s legislature is considering a task force to study the issue. A Minnesota bill would allow anyone 18 and older to buy alcohol in bars or restaurants, but not in liquor stores until they’re 21.

“A much-publicized report released by the Pentagon last week details the extensive ties between the regime of Saddam Hussein and a wide variety of international terrorist organizations, including Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida.”

If this analysis is correct, history is about to be re-written.

Alcohol is very bad for the developing brain, much worse than for adults.

Cave, I’ve always thought it was strange that President Bush doesn’t call press conference or use his Saturday address or something to get more solid information out for the people. I hope he makes sure this does see the light of day more than just one article. Like the info about Iraqi weapons being taken into Syria right before the war. BAD PR.

I took this paragraph out of an abc article about Obama. He has been getting a lot of criticism about trashing his grandmother. He tried to explain it away but dug himself in deeper by saying she was a typical white person. So I was right to think that what he had been doing is saying Wright is a typical black person and his grandma was typical white. How divisive is that? I’m not prejudiced. My parents weren’t either. What this really shows is that Obama sees things in terms of black and white and not just American no matter what he says.

Obama didn’t do himself any favors Thursday, speaking about his white grandmother in a Quote We’ll Read Again: “She is a typical white person, who, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know, well there’s a reaction that’s in our experiences that won’t go away and can sometimes come out in the wrong way. And that’s just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it.”

President Bush said we shouldn’t politicize the Olympics. That is bullcrap. We did it when Russia got out of hand. We always have known that international goodwill was part of the Olympics. I am so sick of our government pandering to the Chinese. They are so out of hand. I feel terrible for the Tibetans.

China ships 80 truckloads of troops toward Tibet

80 truckloads sent in effort to quell anti-government protests

BEIJING – China sent additional troops into restive areas Thursday and made more arrests in the Tibetan capital in an effort to suppress anti-government protests.

GREG BAKER/The Associated Press
Chinese paramilitary police unloaded equipment on a road on the outskirts of Tiger Leaping Gorge, a tourist attraction southeast of Zhongdian, in China’s Yunnan province Thursday. Hundreds of troops set up camp and patrolled in riot gear, helmets and rifles in the area, which usually sees little unrest.

The Dalai Lama, leader of the Tibetan government-in-exile, offered face-to-face negotiations with Chinese leaders and reiterated that he was not seeking independence for Tibet. China has ignored calls for dialogue.

Cave, you are right about it being worse for the developing brain of younger people to drink. If we made the age eighteen, then fifteen year olds would figure it wasn’t such a big deal for them since three years wasn’t so much. Alcohol is a horrible problem in this country. I don’t have a problem with a little in moderation for adults but to give the green light to young people is so stupid.

Our Mission Statement

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
