McCain’s big decision: Who to pick as VP

NOT NECESSARILY A BALANCING ACT

It does not necessarily mean McCain must pick someone far younger.

“I don’t think you’re going to balance the ticket on age,” said Republican strategist Scott Reed. “Pick someone who is going to help you win and who can step in and serve as president if there is a crisis.”

Brinkley said the most reassuring person McCain could pick in the Republican Party would be retired Gen. Colin Powell, a former secretary of state and defense.

Powell, 70, has said he does not want the job but Brinkley said Republican Party elders might be able to persuade him.

“Powell is someone everyone could imagine as president,” Brinkley said.

Two possibilities include Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, 51, who could help McCain win the battleground state of Florida in the November election, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, 47, who could do the same in Minnesota.

There are plenty of other names: Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who says she does not want it; South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham; Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour; Texas Gov. Rick Perry; and former White House budget director Rob Portman, a former member of the U.S. Congress from Ohio.

Wow that would be great. One guy is as old as a tree and the other is older. I don’t think that is good redundancy. If McCain has a heart attack Powell might have a stroke just watching.

This article doesn’t even mention Romney which should come as no surprise to us, but some Romney supporters have actually been naive enough to think it might happen.

Cave, I have been reading all the speculation about Romney and shaking my head. McCain hates him so much he would not offer the job if Romney was the second to the last man on earth.

CENSORSHIP - CENSORSHIP - hey you dirty dogs where did y’all put that blog that talked about that nasty woman taking away her blog? I wrote on that so y’all done censured me and I aint gonna take it. How come you censured me and yer own darn self?

Im thinkin on finding that killkenny woman and talkin to her about our leetle problem. Do we need a killjoy around here? I was thinkin that an iffer sniffer and a smoke signal reader were plenty but I might be wrong.

Yea Joy,
What happened to that blog? Did you just think better of it?

Joy Bischoff Says:

Well guys, what happened is this. I was trying to go to sleep last night and I had a nagging feeling something was out of place so I prayed. The blog came to mind and I fiercely defended myself for writing it because we need to clarify and understand the importance of free speech. I had the feeling that this was true and there was no problem with that aspect of things. So what was wrong? As I pondered, I realized that this was not the only reason I wrote the blog, and therein lay the problem. Because of that sliver of negativity in my justification, I knew I had to take it down. I do not ever want to be the slightest bit vindictive in my motives. Confession done. Oh, and I should add, Terrie’s comment over at that other blog never was approved. Kind of funny.

Ah come on girl! What, you tryin to be a saint or something? I would have let her have it with both barrels then sent in Cat to mop up. Nah but she did deserve a verbal spanking. If y’all change yer mind I can volunteer for that, well maybe not a verbal one.

I think I’ve waited long enough. I’m probably going to sell and buy metals and put away some food and a generator. I might not need them for a few years but like you are always saying here, if you are prepared you won’t be afraid. With wheat up 80% in one year, I wish I had done this last year and I don’t want to see what it is going to be next year.

The ultimate sell signal: Part II
Commentary: Why does the FDIC need more bank examiners?

SEATTLE (MarketWatch) — The clues are piling up: this is not a good year to be investing based on wishful thinking. I’m not a perma-bear, parsing the fine print, but I can read the writing on the wall about chronic economic crises.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. is planning to beef up its division of resolutions and receiverships, which handles failed banks, by 40% this year. The division currently has 233 employees. Considering that only three banks failed last year, why do they need more examiners?
For now, the FDIC is looking to bring back 25 retired employees with experience in the bank closures of the 1980s and 1990s. No, it’s not just a reunion of hard-nosed accountants who closed banks and savings and loans in notorious Friday night raids and liquidated their assets.

This is a real search for tough, experienced “lone rangers,” who set upon a bank or thrift institution on a Friday to take over as much of the assets as possible and open the following Monday with full assurances for insured depositors and firm answers for uninsured depositors. The latter group will get 100% on their insured deposits, probably 50% on the uninsured portion and “well, we can talk about it, and we’ll send you some more later.”
This week Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke put it bluntly: “There probably will be some bank failures.” Regulators have some real work ahead of them. The FDIC had 76 banks on its problem bank list at Dec. 31, down from 136 problem banks in 2002 and 213 banks in 1990. This past year’s three failures were the first since 2004. Apparently the FDIC expects to have a busy year.

OK Matt,
I have a question for you. You probably understand this kind of thing a lot better than I do. What happens to your house in case of a complete economic crash? If everyone is losing their homes, will everybody actually be kicked out or will there be some kind of freeze on repos? Cause we are trying to pay off our house ASAP but maybe we should be increasing our emergency savings acct. instead.

And don’t forget the guns Matt - especially if you have kids. having food is not the same as keeping it.

Encourage people to learn about our Constitution and the freedoms it preserves and to have faith in the Judaeo-Christian principles upon which it is based so that when those freedoms are threatened action may be taken to protect them.

In support of our mission statement, here is our Three-Fold Purpose of the blog, In God We Trust.

1. Defining and spreading an understanding of our Constitutional freedoms for the purpose of sustaining those freedoms.

2. Identifying threats to the unity of the conservative base, and helping people to resist the pressure to compromise values as an answer to political tensions.

3. Spreading the message that the key for healing the nation is showing respect, tolerance and kindness as we accept the political differences of others.
