Wheat, Vladimir Putin, and Afghanistan
Posted by Terrie Soberg under: Constitution in Peril; General; What's News .
I have a lot of respect for Joy Bischoff’s prowess to see patterns in scriptures, history, and current events. Another person who seems to have a bit of that gift is Glenn Beck. I heard him connect some dots today and I am amazed where his diagram led. I scrambled to take notes, so I may not get this 100% accurately, but you will see his point well enough.
Glenn told of stories he read in the Financial Times this weekend and how he put the stories together.
First in an article in the Economist, Great Britain is having the same financial problems that we are in the United States: credit card spending is out of control, there is no fiscal responsibility, and the banking system is in trouble with loans.
He then spoke of the Monoline Insurance problem, where the bonds that insure everyone’s retirement funds are about to downgraded at any time. According to Glenn, when that happens, “Your retirement money will be flushed down toilet with no insurance.” He is concerned that no one seems to be paying attention to this warning shoe that is about to drop.
Next, wheat prices have surged. Wheat futures are up 50% since January. America has been known as the world’s bread basket, but for the first time in history, we will have to import wheat. He asks, “What does that mean for rest of the world?” We have sold too much of our wheat. We don’t have enough for ourselves. And the reason? Farmers have stopped growing wheat and are growing corn to make ethanol. Ethanol does not work.
Now, Hugo Chavez is threatening to hold us hostage by cutting off oil to America. He is angry that British courts are going to freeze up to $12 million in Venezuelan assests. If they do and Venezuela is harmed, Chavez promises to harm America. Glenn quotes him as saying:
“If you end up freezing (Venezuelan assets) and it harms us, we’re going to harm you,” Chavez said during his weekly radio and television program, “Hello, President.” “Do you know how? We aren’t going to send oil to the United States. Take note, Mr. Bush, Mr. Danger.”
So now we have housing problems, credit problems, retirement fund problems, wheat prices skyrocketing, federal debt, and our own personal debt. What next? This may be the scariest part of all.
Glenn continued by reading from page 3 of the Financial Times, and he is convinced no one is putting all of this in context.
Apparently, Russia says it is being forced into a new arms race, according to Vladimir Putin. Moscow is going to develop new high tech special weapons.
Glenn proceeded to give a little history lesson. He asked, “How did we collapse the Soviet Union?” We spent them into oblivion and their economy collapsed. They had tons of oil and the oil prices collapsed, which is the opposite of us. We have no oil and the prices are shooting up. Nevertheless, the pressure is the same.
The next thing we did to collapse Russia was in the arms race. We could afford to build up debt in building our weapons, but they couldn’t because it put too much pressure on their economy. Why was that? They were Socialists. They were spending too much money. Check our United States government and see where we are headed. They were also fighting a war in Afghanistan, against Osama Bin Laden. Glenn said, “It’s the same story.”
Then he ties all the ends neatly together for us. When you have a candidate who wants us to become more Socialist, have more health care, a bigger government, free college for everyone, and wants to bail out homeowners from a situation that the government and politicians caused. If the mortgage loans collapse, then the retirement funds collapse. If the government wants people to be able to pay their loans, why are farmer’s growing corn instead of wheat? If you can’t afford bread, how can you afford your house payment?
Make sense? Yup, we are majorly up Crap’s Creek and I barely have enough paddles for me!

Not a fun way to start the day. I like Glenn Beck. What scares me is I never really thought of him as a conspiracy nut and this does make sense. What doesn’t make sense is the U.S. importing wheat. It’s insane. We have come to a point where our amber waves of grain and fruited plain just aren’t up to the job and that is just very bad planning or worse. I read an article awhile back that quoted people from the food industry saying we only had six days of food for America if shipping was interrupted. How nuts is that?

Weird that I miss the days when our crazy government paid people to let their fields lay fallow.

Terrie it is amazing that even though I try to keep my eyes wide open and I study politics, it was hard for me to keep reading. It was too scary because it seems so clear and way too close to happening. I think in the end that our country is filled with people who love freedom so much that we will find a way to get through the coming crisis. But we will need paddles.

The part that jumped out at me was the retirement funds disappearing. I’ve been hearing stuff here and there but I think people are so terrified of this happening that they can hardly bring themselves to face this crisis. I can’t even really imagine what that would do to our people. I am partly retired and have a lot to lose. I don’t know what to do about this.

What I like about this site is you don’t just get the political news. You get help understanding what it means and how it fits together. What I don’t like about this site is that you don’t just get the political news. You get help understanding what deep stuff we are standing in.
I read the story in news and comments about Obama then I read Terrie’s blog about socialism weakening us the way the Soviet Union was weakened. I don’t like it. I also don’t like Hank having to worry about his retirement.

Stumpy be good.
Once again you guys beat the talk shows with your insightful comments. Rush talked about future projections of what it will take to pay for retirement and also socialist caretaking programs we are being saddled with. It is going to collapse of its own weight.
He also talked about Calderon, Pres of Mexico telling us that we shouldn’t be anti-Mexican.
He says we need them and should welcome them. I wonder why Mexico’s laws aren’t being change? Their immigration laws are middle ages, very anti-American.

E.E. I’m listening to. Can you believe we are paying for Mexico’s fence on their southern border? Is that not the height of hypocrisy? They don’t want us to build a fence, they make us feel like hate-mongers for not wanting millions of poor illegal aliens but they want a fence. They don’t want illegal immigrants. And they want us to PAY for it?

Mornin Cammy. Wanna come out and play?
Ya know one thing I never figured to do in this life was talk to a man named Cavetrollhead. Dare I ask Son? Anyhow, I thank you for the compliment.

Stumpy, I just moved to Minnesota after living 20 years in Tennessee. I have an in with Al Gore ever since I helped him invent the Internet. He promised that he wouldn’t let Global Warming have any effect on me, so I won’t be taking you up on your kind offer. My husband did say that you’d better watch your ass, though.

For new people who don’t know, Stumpy has a donkey. He sometimes uses the biblical term for it as my mom would say (hehe). Anyway that is what Terrie is talking about. Good one Terrie. Actually I kind of doubt Stumpy really has one. Never know about that guy.

I found a comforting quote from Brigham Young:
“The time will come that gold will hold no comparison in value to a bushel of wheat.”
