Kris Koback to be Romney’s Advisor on Immigration

Posted by Terrie Soberg under: Presidential Election 2008; What's News .

Sharon Anderson forwarded us this email that has been circulating around the internet:

Apparently Romney has appointed Kris Kobach to be his advisor on immigration while McCain has appointed Juan Hernandez as his Hispanic Outreach Director.

Hernandez says in his own words, as you can see in a video on this site, that the Mexicans who do remain here in the United States are hoped to remain loyal to Mexico. Is this the kind of immigrants we want in this country? Do we really want people with loyalties to other countries remaining legally here and obtaining citizenship?

Here is what a friend says who knows Kris Kobach personally:

I personally know Kris Kobach, UFIRE (Utahns for Immigration Reform and Enforcement) has brought him to UT on more than one occasion to testify to our legislative committees. BOTH he and his wife have been in my home for extended periods of time, and are really neat people. I know of no one who is more informed on the planet in regard to illegal immigration and the law surrounding it in this country.

This article expresses that the writer is stunned, well, so am I. Enough so to do my own flip-flop. Knowing Kris, I know that he would not be willing to get involved in political double talk. If Romney has convinced Kris to join, it will be because Romney is serious in what he says. I am perfectly willing to withdraw my concerns.

The following is the reaction of a friend who saw the Kris Kobach endorsement for the first time at the site below (I’ve seen it several other places since then); I thought you should see it. This friend was not a Romney supporter, until now.

Now for the friends:

If this is for real, I will support Romney, with no further questions. I know nothing about this web site, so if this turns out to be truthful it is great news.

I found a press release on the Mitt Romney website that confirms this news:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT:
Kevin Madden (857) 288-6390

Boston, MA – Today, Kris Kobach, noted immigration policy expert and head of the Kansas Republican Party, announced his endorsement of Governor Mitt Romney. Kobach will serve as an adviser to Governor Romney on border security and immigration reform issues.

“For years, Kris Kobach has distinguished himself in his work to ensure that our immigration system respects the rule of law and ends illegal immigration while protecting the legal immigration that has made our country great. He knows firsthand how important it is that we protect our country by securing our borders and rejecting amnesty proposals. I look forward to working with Kris as we tackle this critical challenge,” said Governor Romney.

Joining Romney for President, Kobach said, “Of all the Republican presidential candidates, Governor Romney has outlined the clearest vision for how we are going to end illegal immigration in this country. More importantly, he has the record to back up his words. When he was Governor, he vetoed a bill that would have rewarded illegal aliens with in-state tuition rates, and he also increased cooperation between state and federal law enforcement. In one of our country’s most liberal states, he stood up for the enforcement of immigration laws. He will do the same as President.”

One Comment so far...

When I read this about Kris Kobach and think about Huckabee getting the backing of the Minute Men I just shake my head. No one else running will do anything to make the border problem better except Mitt and Ron Paul. I can’t imagine what will happen if one of the three liberals get in and all pretense of protecting the border dissolves. Scary scary thought.

I copied this from ERin2008:

By David Parker:

Mitt Romney is surging in the polls with the coalescing of the conservative base of the Republican Party and is on a 10-state run before Super Tuesday. Amazingly, Mitt will be in California today, Monday February 4th. We are hosting a Rally for Mitt near the Long Beach Airport today at 7pm. Please gather your friends and family and join us. I will be sending out a follow up email with all of the details later this evening or first thing tomorrow.

Recent Polls have Mitt leading in California, Georgia, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Massachusetts and several other Super Tuesday states, and Rasmussen’s daily tracking poll came out today showing Mitt and John McCain tied nationally. Every vote counts and we would encourage you to talk to your friends about voting for Mitt on Tuesday. Contrary to the media’s wanting of John McCain to win the day, Mitt is surging nationally and is well positioned for a strong Tuesday showing. This is going to be a very competitive race and we need to join with other conservative Republicans and Rally to and for Mitt.

Please gather as many as you are able and join us in Long Beach tomorrow evening. The media is watching, but more importantly, Mitt is truly energized and lifted when he feels the strength of those who support him. Speaking to Mitt after the Rally last week in Orange County, he told me how appreciative and strengthened he was because of such a great outpouring. He and Ann can feel the strength and encouragement of so many in this cause. We are bound as one at this critical time.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, but especially thanks in advance for coming out tomorrow evening. It promises to be a great and exciting, even electric event. This is a great time for you and your children to see, hear and meet the next President of the United States.
