Is It Working?

Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Presidential Election 2008; Uncategorized; What's News .

When the press acts in an even-handed way and sincerely tries to show both sides of the story, we want to acknowledge that effort. Fox News has shown a very strong bias against Romney but they posted the following article from which I will share the first part:

McCain, Romney Trade Barbs Over Iraq War in Florida

Associated Press January 26, 2008

SARASOTA, Fla. — John McCain accused Mitt Romney Saturday of wanting to set a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, drawing an immediate protest from his Republican presidential rival, who said: “That’s simply wrong and it’s dishonest, and he should apologize.”

McCain countered: “I think the apology is owed to the young men and women serving this nation in uniform, that we will not let them down in hard times or good. That is who the apology is owed to.”

The Arizona senator stood before a crowd in Sun City, Fla., and said he was quoting Romney as favoring a “timetable for withdrawal.” However, quotes circulated by McCain’s campaign didn’t show Romney making that comment.

Perhaps enough people have complained about the bias that Fox is listening. It would be nice to think it is working.

The article by fox news did seem balanced but here is one by the AP that is terrible. Totally manipulative and biased. The article has McCain accusing Romney and it makes it sound like Romney is guilty. They don’t show Romney’s rebuttal. It makes the reader think that Romney concedes the point then goes on to pretend to be fair to Romney by putting in something he said on a different subject. Nasty stuff.

Here is more from the article Joy posted. It is the lead story now on Yahoo news. I am glad they put that one up there instead of leading with the one I just posted. Big difference between stories.

Asked about the comment in Land O’ Lakes, Fla., Romney bristled.

“That’s dishonest, to say that I have a specific date. That’s simply wrong,” he said. “That is not the case. I’ve never said that.”

The former Massachusetts governor added: “I know he’s trying desperately to change the topic from the economy and trying to get back to Iraq, but to say something that’s not accurate is simply wrong — and he knows better.”

Later in Sun City, Fla., McCain stuck to his assessment and said: “The apology is owed to the young men and women serving this nation in uniform.”

Good work, Cameron. We appreciate the help in getting the word out. I believe you were our first poster so that was a lucky day for us. Keep it up.

Joy do you really think that us sending around the email made a difference? I would like to think little people actually had a voice. My dad told me he didn’t think the press would care what any conservative thought of them but I hope that isn’t true.

Carrie, I don’t think we alone have moved mountains, but we are a small piece that when joined with the tide of protest. I would like to believe the internet has given the common people a voice. Join enough voices and it becomes a chorus.

Another even-handed approach from the media:
