Tonight’s Debate

Posted by Joy Bischoff under: Uncategorized .

Weigh in if you would like to give your thoughts on tonight’s debate. For me, smart and presidential sums it up for Mitt. Things seemed low key for awhile but ended with some nasty curve balls from Tim Russert. I felt like Mitt did a great job and stayed very cool and calm under fire. His answers were clear compared to muddled answers from some of the others. I did not appreciate the accusations that he was trying to buy the election. He has raised so much money and to belittle that, belittles us. What did you think?

I agree with your assessment. I loved his economic savvy. He was right on. He wants permanent tax cuts for the poor so that should play well against the dems. He explained how corporations need to grow because the key to helping the economy is creating jobs. A lot of people think that the money the feds are going to hand back will solve our problems, they will only post pone them, and maybe only for a very short time. We have to have the foundation of jobs underneath that to be stable. It is soooo simple!

The press is so dense. They always bring up his raising taxes in Massachusettes and he always explains that it was fees that hadn’t been raised in like twenty years. Duh.
Not nice on the Mormon issue. I thought that had died down but they won’t let it. Tim Russert is not a very nice guy. Mitt did a great job though. I was very proud of him. He won hands down.

Joe Scarborough said that as far as the economic part of the debate, this was Mitt Romney’s best performance. He really did hit it out of the ball park. McCain always plays his one economic card, he cuts pork barrel spending. He mentioned once that he needs to take economic classes. That is scary to hear in a candidate when we are in the mess we are in right now.

I’m feeling a lot better about Romney after watching this debate for two reasons mainly. First, I could see how much he is hated by the press and that is certainly a red flag that he is not bought and paid for. That is important to me. Second, I could see clearly where he is coming from about creating jobs. He isn’t trying to protect the rich, he wants tax cuts for corporations so they can create more jobs. Capitalism, the opposite of socialism. Good job. I’ll definitely be supporting him. My parents retired to Florida and were watching tonight. They are probably going to go for Romney too.

Whoa, Angela, that is great. You and your parents, what a day. Mitt sure did a great job. He is such a brilliant man, it is exciting to think about him wrapping that brain around our challenges.

How did you like McCain saying he won among Republicans in NH and SC? That was simply a flat out lie.

E.E. Says:

That made me so mad. Straight Talk but not honest talk. I didn’t think either McCain or Huckabee came across well tonight. Huckabee was snide toward Mitt. I think the audience could see that.

Cameron Says:

24 January 2008 at 10:31 pm.

Yeah I thought Huckabee hurt himself with the voters tonight. I expect to see his poll numbers go down. I think Mitt’s will soar after tonight. I can’t wait to hear what talk radio has to say tomorrow.

Some people might say Mitt should have hit his opponents harder but I think playing low key was wiser. He seemed wise and reasonable. The press goes crazy when they perceive him attacking so I think he did the right thing.

How did you like Huckabee’s idea for a highway all the way up the east coast as his answer to the economy?

E.E. Says:

24 January 2008 at 10:40 pm.

I almost felt sorry for Huckabee. He really doesn’t get it.

Terrie Soberg Says:

I really don’t think Huckabee’s one liners are going to work as well for him any more. The problems we are facing are so serious that people don’t want entertainment. They want substance and they are seeing that in Mitt.

Cameron Says:

24 January 2008 at 10:45 pm.

Well, I think all the best minds agree that Mitt won hands down. Good night all.

He really does seem like an adult among middle schoolers. Thanks for joining in.

I just wanted to add this comment in an article on the debate by Fox News.

“Romney didn’t say so, but he initially sidestepped questions about the tax cuts when he was governor. He told reporters earlier in the week that it wasn’t often his habit to comment on federal legislation while he was governor.”

That isn’t what I saw. He did answer that and did it well.

It was okay. A little dull like milk toast.

I missed the debate last night but everything I am reading this morning makes it look like a great victory for Romney. Can you feel the momentum? I think Florida is going to pull out a big win for Mitt, unless of course, there is some problems with their voting machines like there have been in the past.

E.E. Says:

So Angela, what did your parents think of the debate? Are they in Mitt’s camp now?

Chuck C Says:

25 January 2008 at 11:28 am.

Mitt was very poised, presidential and right on with his delivery. I kind of wondered part way through if he would like Rudy as his running mate… was that the reason for the nice question he posed to him?

Cameron Says:

25 January 2008 at 11:35 am.

I have been thinking about the debate and reading some reviews and here is what I think. I believe the press was so mad that the other candidates didn’t attack Mitt, that during the last half they decided they had to do it for them. They didn’t do a good enough job tripping him up because Mitt was ready for them. It kind of reminds me of the pharisees attacking Jesus. They always ended up looking like real A#@*s.
Chuck, I hear people throwing around ideas for running mates but I haven’t heard anything about Rudy yet. I did notice afterwards that Mitt was talking to him and seemed very friendly. Who knows?

Rush just said that Mitt Romney demonstrated economic expertise. I think he is having a hard time not endorsing him. If he gets the nominationg I think Rush will fight so hard for him.

My parents liked how Romney came across last night but they are still concerned about the Mormon issue. They are torn between him and Huckabee. I have suggested some reading for them so we will see. I like what I am seeing more all the time. I watched a video of the speech Romney gave last month about religion. If I can get my father to watch that I am hoping that will do it.

Carrie Says:

25 January 2008 at 3:10 pm.

Angela, tell your parents that us Mormons aren’t so bad. We are supposed to be judged by our fruits and I think a lot of Mormons are pretty nice people. I try to be. I hope they will watch that video. Every Christian should feel good to have a president that feels the way Mitt does about the separation of church and state. I am very glad you have decided to support Mitt. Way to go!

E.E. Says:

Fox reported these words from John McCain.

“Mitt Romney says he’s a leader, but how do we know which direction he wants to lead? Mitt Romney seems to change positions like the wind,” the McCain ad says.

Rush did a good job this morning telling about the real flip-flopper, John McCain. This isn’t the pot calling the kettle black as my mom used to say, it is the pot calling a plate black that just has a smudge on it. Okay that was dumb but you know what I mean.

This is an article from Fox News about Romney getting promptings during the debate. I didn’t hear anything. Did any of you? What do you think about this?
