Selling Our Souls

On the slippery slope that is leading our nation to socialism, there are two major points I would like to make that must be understood if we have any hope of remaining a republic.
Point One: In 1776, a group of Americans decided they would put their fortunes at risk in order to free themselves from political slavery to King George. Many Americans feared to buck the status quo and were unwilling to risk their fortunes. They were called Tories. In spite of them and by the grace of God, George Washington, along with many other patriots, led the colonies to political independance.
Anciently, many of the Israelites urged Moses to lead them back to the fleshpots of Egypt. They preferred security over freedom. In spite of them and by the power of God, Moses held strong and led the Israelite nation to freedom. Many Republicans are supporting policies that will without question, lead us further into the slavery of socialism. They are doing this because of fear. They are choosing the fleshpots of Egypt over freedom, which takes work and dedication not entitlement. But the end result is a promised land where our families can live in the kind of social environment that engenders personal growth and happiness.
Please do not think that it does not matter if we support candidates who espouse policies that are not founded on our Constitution. Those choices will lead directly to the loss of freedom for you, your children and grandchildren. If we cherry pick issues and justify supporting someone who says they are conservative but their record shows otherwise, (not just on one issue but a number) we will deserve what we end up with. So many people are blinding themselves right now and running on emotionalism. Getting caught up in this emotional herd mentality makes one incapable of using logic. There is a difference between blind emotionalism (believing what you want to believe in spite of the facts) and passionate logic (being willing to make sacrifices in support of true principles). Those of us who understand what is at stake here must patiently try and help others understand how a liberal agenda leads to socialism. Will we be like many of the Israelites who wanted to trade freedom for security (the fleshpots of Egypt)? We should know by now that socialism does not work as there have been many examples of failed socialistic policies. I am not hesitant to suggest that any ongoing socialistic policies that have not failed are heading in that direction. For those who believe that all that matters is holding to religious values, I would suggest they study history. Freedom of Religion is suppressed when freedoms are lost. They may be able to privately hold to their religious convictions, but what about their children or grandchildren?
Point Two: The number one obstacle that had to be overcome for the 13 Colonies to overthrow tyranny was putting aside sole loyalty for their own colony. Each one had their own priorities and they guarded these jealously and looked with suspicion on the other colonies. This is why, once freedom was won, the first form of government had to be some type of confederation (as under the Articles of Confederation). The Colonies were not ready to unify into a republic until they had worked together long enough to lose some of their antipathy toward the others.
Similarly, if the various groups who make up those who support the Constitution do not learn to work together, the Constitution won’t be protected. We can remain in our own political camp but we must unify by finding some common ground allowing for differences even if we do not endorse them. If we do not learn from our forefathers, we are lost. People at the top level of the liberal movement are well aware of this and that is why many in the press are working hard to cause friction that is fracturing the Conservative Coalition, and we are buying into this climate of hate. When Israel was broken up, they were weakened and eventually were at the mercy of tyrants. Unity is the key. Respect for differences instead of cutting derision toward others is the only path off the slippery slope. This does not mean just for Conservatives, but this is a specific call to those who believe the Constitution is in danger. Please join us in getting this message to others.
We are specifically reaching out to those supporting candidates that, although there are broad differences, do understand that we must try and save the Constitution. Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Ron Paul, and Duncan Hunter all understand this importance. This makes some recoil, wanting to argue that their differences are too broad. This was the very argument the original colonies had. It was a miracle they were able to find common ground. Can we? Will we? Will you join us?

I get where you’re coming from but it’s asking too much to add Ron Paul in there. He is against defending freedom. Some things are so far apart there is no common ground. Some of the people supporting him are not conservative. What do you do with that?

I thought like that too. I struggle with Ron Paul, but Roy is right. He has a lot of support and we can’t just throw away all the people who feel so passionate about what he says. I actually found out there there are a few things he says that I like.

Cameron - I understand that you are passionate about defending freedom. Ron Paul also sees himself defending freedom. Both positions are honestly held. Your response is a common one from what I am seeing. Too great of a division makes it impossible to work together, right? Is the war a greater division than the slavery issue was between the north and the south when the founding fathers were debating over the Constitution? If you read the transcripts of their meetings, I believe you would see deeper passion and division on an even greater issue than we now face. It seemed an impossible chasm to cross, but they found the fortitude to do it against all odds. We are living in a day that calls for similar heroes who act with rational determination. Do you love your country more than you hate the anti-war protesters? If not then we are truly in trouble.

So maybe I am emotional about it. I’ll need some time to think about this but thanks for answering.
