Long-Term Trumps Short-Term
Posted by Roy Bischoff under: Constitution in Peril; Judaeo-Christian Values Under Attack; Presidential Election 2008; Talk Show Observations .
Right now there is a lot of chatter on talk radio and on forums about whether or not to waste a vote on someone who does not stand a chance to win. Many people are saying that a vote for any Republican is better than a vote for a Democrat. If someone is a conservative Republican, and they vote for a candidate that supports a socialist agenda, then they are telling the Republican Party, in effect, that they can water down important issues and erase the distinction between the two parties and they will still have the loyalty of people in the party. The reasoning seems right; we should not help a Democrat get into office. In the short-term, that does make sense. In the long-run, the Republican party will remain arrogant and not get the message to stay true to Judeo-Christian values. This is a personal decision for each to make, but for me, I am more interested in helping my children have a future hope of a party that holds to values and honors the Constitution.

Roy I’m not sure you’re right. I’ve been struggling about the whole issue but things are too serious now to let this election go. We can’t let Hillary in.

People like to tell me I’m wasting my vote for Ron Paul but I don’t think I am. I am making a strong statement that we have to follow the Constitution or they won’t get my vote, period. IMO things are going to go bad for a while. Whoever is in office is going to get the blame. If it is Hillary then a conservative will get in office after her. We can’t bury our heads in the sand about the future. I agree with Roy…except he should vote for Ron Paul.

E.E., that is what they are counting on. The leaders of the Republican party are watering down values because what they are most interested in is beating the Democrats. It’s like they are saying here, it is about divisiveness. They figure if they can get us to hate the other side, then we will swallow whatever version of conservatism they want to throw at us just to beat our enemy. It stinks and we can’t put up with it. Hillary is bad but being luke warm is worse. Jesse is right, if Hillary gets in because we have a liberal who has been pawned off as a conservative running for the GOP, then Hillary will screw up what is already a mess and if the Republican party gets the message then next time maybe they will listen to us.

It’s nice to know some people think like we do. E.E., no offense and I know a lot of people who look at things the way you do. I guess it is just a matter of opinion.

I’m reading a Tom Clancy novel, Executive Orders, and I find it interesting that the main stream media is portrayed with the attitude that they have the exclusive rights to decide what is truth and to lay down the course for America to follow. They are incensed if the truths they shape are not believed and followed.
E.E., I too understand where you are coming from but the pattern of Americans being expected to follow their parties like sheep and being uncomfortably labeled if they don’t is a very dangerous precedent. If we don’t shake up the movers and shakers by refusing their choices who reject our basic values, we are finished as the only real beacon of light in the world.
